    Description

    Saint Mary Star of the Sea School is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a variety of skill sets to oversee, manage the school's cafeteria, and cook lunch for the students. The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic role model who is passionate about sharing the Catholic faith, capable of working collaboratively with colleagues and school families, and demonstrate a commitment to advance the mission of the school.

    The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of food preparation, cooking, and serving in large quantities. Proven knowledge of food quality standards, inventory management for bulk supplies, and kitchen sanitation protocols. Additionally, expertise in safety measures for food handling, equipment operation, and maintaining a clean work environment is essential.

    RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
    • Plan menus, order food supplies, cook lunch, and work with outside vendors.
    • Responsible for the daily set up, safe operation, and breakdown of all kitchen and mechanical equipment, including ovens, mixers, and warmers.
    • Oversee and participate in meal preparation, cooking and service of all menu items, including main courses, salads, soups, and desserts.
    • Maintain sanitary conditions including washing pots, pans, kettles, and other cooking utensils.
    • Keep records of student lunch orders and serve/distribute items accordingly
    • Maintain effective communication with school administration, faculty, and parents regarding cafeteria operations, daily schedules, and menu updates.
    • Possesses a Food Manager License to maintain a safe and sanitary work environment and ensure all policies and procedures are followed
    • Perform other related duties as required/assigned
    Requirements
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • High school diploma or its equivalent.
    • Ideally two or three years of commercial or institutional experience in food preparation.
    • Possession of or ability to acquire appropriate license(s), certificate(s), by August 2026 and/or endorsement(s) for position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
    • Light physical effort required. May need to transport items weighing up to 40 pounds. Will be required to stand for extended periods of time.

    Part-time exempt position (10 Months), approximately 25 hours per week.
