A Catholic Elementary School Teacher is a missionary disciple who forms students academically, spiritually, and morally. The teacher creates a Christ-centered classroom environment, delivers high-quality instruction, collaborates with colleagues and families, and supports the mission of the Catholic Church through word and example.
Responsibilities
1. Catholic Identity & Mission
* Model a life of faith consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church. * Integrate Catholic values, Gospel teachings, and prayer into daily instruction. * Participate in school liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and faith-formation activities. * Promote a culture of respect, compassion, and service reflective of Catholic Social Teaching.
2. Instruction & Curriculum
* Plan and deliver standards-based, developmentally appropriate lessons in all subject areas. * Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including those needing intervention and enrichment. * Incorporate instructional strategies that support engagement, critical thinking, and mastery. * Use technology effectively to enhance learning. * Maintain accurate lesson plans aligned to curriculum standards and school expectations.
3. Classroom Environment
* Establish and maintain a positive, orderly, and faith-filled classroom atmosphere. * Implement schoolwide behavior expectations with consistency, fairness, and dignity. * Foster a learning environment where every child feels known, safe, and valued as a child of God.
4. Assessment & Data Use
* Utilize formative and summative assessments to measure student learning. * Analyze data to guide instruction and set student goals. * Communicate student progress regularly to students and families. * Maintain accurate and timely records of grades, assessments, and attendance.
5. Professional Responsibilities
* Collaborate with colleagues in PLCs, faculty meetings, and school initiatives. * Participate in professional development required by the school or diocese. * Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, colleagues, and administrators. * Uphold confidentiality and professional ethics. * Attend school events, parent meetings, and other duties as assigned.
6. Student Support
* Provide intervention or enrichment as needed to support individual student growth. * Partner with support staff to assist students with learning plans or special needs. * Encourage a growth mindset, resilience, and responsibility in students.
Qualifications
Required
* Bachelor's degree in Education or related field. * Valid state teaching certification (or willingness to pursue certification). * Understanding and support of Catholic Church teachings. * Commitment to the mission of Catholic education.
Preferred
* Practicing Catholic in good standing. * Experience in an elementary classroom setting. * Training in differentiation, data-driven instruction, Orton-Gillingham reading and math. * Familiarity with technology integration and digital learning tools.
