    This is a full-time exempt position with benefits. Salary DOE, range is $51,000-76,000 for a full-time employee. Part-time hourly without benefits is possible, minimum of 20 hours a week.

    Benefits package includes: three weeks starting annual PTO accrual, the week off between Christmas and New Year's Day paid, plus eleven paid holidays, 403(b) with employer match, life insurance, medical, vision, and dental.

    PURPOSE
    The Safe Environment/Victim Assistance Coordinator is responsible for the administration of the diocesan Safe Environment Program; compiling data and documents for the annual USCCB audit based on the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People; working closely with diocesan groups to ensure compliance with all diocesan Child and Youth Protection policies; providing assistance, pastoral care, and support to victims and their families; and coordinating the quarterly Diocesan Review Board meetings.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Implements and leads the Diocesan Safe Environment Program, including oversight, operation, and maintenance of the Safe Environment Program and policies; ensuring program compliance; and reporting.
    • Maintains database for the purposes of tracking and reporting compliance of diocesan sites including parishes, schools, and agencies. Manually inputs and updates offline accounts.
    • Oversees the criminal background check and credentialing process for Safe Environment, including follow up on any adverse findings.
    • Works closely with parishes, schools, and other agencies to ensure that clergy, religious, employees, and volunteers are effectively screened and trained according to diocesan safe environment policies and procedures as defined in the diocesan Abuse Policy.
    • Reviews Code of Professional Conduct with new employees to answer questions and clarify any cultural differences.
    • Ensures that all parishes and schools conduct Child Protective Training for minors and tracks attendance/opt out forms for each child in compliance with Article 12 of the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People (Charter).
    • Reviews, updates, and maintains the Child Protection Training materials, making them available to all parishes and the school. Completes parish audits every year.
    • Raises awareness of National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, serves as primary coordinator for diocesan events or initiatives related to healing.
    • Regularly communicates updates of various Safe Environment topics to each parish, school, and agency in the form of newsletters, bulletin inserts, and posters.
    • Gathers and reports all evidence required for the annual CARA study and Stonebridge Audit in a timely and accurate manner in compliance with Articles 12 & 13 of the Charter. Completes audit charts A/B and C/D.
    • Attends the annual Catholic Safeguarding Leadership Association (CSLA) Conference. Completes C.A.P.E. training provided by the Secretariat for Child and Youth Protection. Seeks continued education opportunities to keep up to date on current advancements made in research of this ministry. (Article 16)
    • Works with DRB chair to set agenda, keeps minutes, and attends a quarterly Diocesan Review Board meeting as directed by the bishop in compliance with Article 2 of the Charter.
    • Reviews and updates policies and the Code of Professional Conduct as needed with a victim-centered approach.
    • Contacts and offers to meet in a timely fashion with those reporting allegations of abuse by anyone representing the Catholic Church. Works with victims to determine needed support, which may include counseling services or other forms of support available following diocesan policies and procedures.
    • Assists victim/survivor in reporting to authorities and provides referrals to available advocacy support agencies and programs.
    • Complies with all mandatory reporting requirements. Reports all allegations of abuse against minors or vulnerable adults to the bishop and executive staff of the Diocese to ensure all Diocesan Safe Environment policies and procedures are followed.
    • Assists in establishing educational programs and developing a victim-centered approach toward training sessions, policies, and procedures of the Diocese. Provides presentations and training at diocesan meetings, parishes, and other organizations about the ministry of the Safe Environment Office, as requested.
    • Maintains current outreach efforts promoting healing and reconciliation to all victims of clergy sexual abuse. Collaborates with community-based support organizations. (Articles 2 and 16)

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    • High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or another related field preferred.
    • Five years of experience working with individuals affected by trauma preferred.
    • Experience in a Roman Catholic environment preferred.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    • Excellent oral and written English-language communication skills, including clear speaking voice.
    • Must be able to work with, speak, and listen to individuals from different cultures within Alaska. Ability to patiently work with individuals with English as a second language.
