Reports to: Department Chairperson, Assistant Principal for Academics Work Year: 190 days
Purpose: The purpose of the Teacher is to foster the academic and spiritual growth of students within a supportive Catholic environment by delivering high-quality, standards-based instruction, collaborating with colleagues, and upholding the school's mission and values.
Job Functions:
- Supports the mission of the Roman Catholic Church, the Archdiocese of Las Vegas, and Bishop Gorman Catholic High School in word and action. - Maintains a professional relationship with students, staff, and school families. - Exercises use of good judgment when communicating confidential information. - Works in conjunction with department members and members of the professional learning team to establish essential outcomes in alignment with agreed upon standards. - As appropriate to the teaching discipline, relates Catholic identity and Christian anthropology within the curriculum as a whole and individual lessons in particular. - Utilizes research-based instructional practices to maximize student learning; is a practitioner of the "art and science of teaching". - Assesses student learning, using formative and summative methods, on an ongoing basis; modifies instructional practices as needed based on the analysis of assessments. - Reports student progress on a regular basis; updates the electronic gradebook at least weekly. - Collaborates regularly with colleagues on matters of curriculum, instruction, and assessment in order to improve instructional practices and enhance student learning. - Uses remediation and intervention as necessary for students who are struggling to move them toward mastery of essential outcomes. - Creates a safe and welcoming environment for learning in the classroom; manages students and behavior to ensure effective learning. - Acts as a professional with students, colleagues, administrators, parents, and the community at large. - Communicates proactively with parents of students who are struggling; offers solutions to improve student learning. - Takes responsibility for ongoing professional learning to maintain expertise in both content and pedagogy. - Supports students in the learning and mastery of the school's Integral Student Outcomes. - Supports archdiocesan and school policies as well as administrative decisions; addresses concerns through formal communication with Department Chairpersons and/or administration. - Adheres to the policies and procedures as outlined in the Faculty and Staff Handbook. - Other duties as necessary including those assigned by the Administration. - Assists other personnel as necessary for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. - Regularly attends meetings and trainings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree required - Educational training and coursework preferred - Prior high school teaching experience preferred - Candidates for Theology teaching positions must be practicing Roman Catholics in full communion with the Church
