The Music Director will seek to glorify God and aid in the sanctification of the faithful through the beautification of the Mass with Sacred Music. Working in conjunction with the pastor, the Director will plan music for all liturgies, be the principal accompanist for three weekend Masses, and build up the Ministry by recruiting and training cantors and choir members. The qualified candidate will possess proficiency in playing the organ and piano, will be proficient in choral conducting, and will possess an understanding of Liturgy. The Director of Music will incorporate both Latin and English into the Sunday morning Masses with the use of Gregorian Ordinaries liturgies and planning traditional hymnody, as well as a more contemporary music style for the Saturday evening Mass. Primary Function: The Music Director works closely with the pastor to plan and organize appropriate music for all parish liturgies and celebrations. Required education & experience: • Degree or Certificate in Music • Experience in Music Ministry in the Parish setting preferred Required knowledge, skills and abilities: • Extensive knowledge of music theory and practice • High degree of proficiency in the use of the organ and piano • Ability to direct choirs and build up choirs Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Coordinate and select music for all liturgies with the pastor • Obtain, prepare, and maintain music for liturgies • Plan and accompany funerals and weddings • Design programs for funerals, Easter, Christmas, Confirmation & 1st Communion • Recruit, organize, and train music groups and cantors for all liturgies • Maintain professional competence through regular music practice • Attend staff meetings • Have input on annual music & liturgy budget • Perform other duties as assigned by the pastor
