Our Lady Seat of Wisdom, a Chesterton Academy is a Catholic classical high school in north metro Denver which exists to be a joyful haven where students grow in wisdom and encounter our Lord Jesus Christ for the glory of God and the salvation of souls. We educate students in the Western civilization tradition and the liberal arts and sciences. We are seeking a talented and dynamic Latin and Humanities Teacher to be responsible for teaching Latin I, II, and III, while also contributing to the broader Humanities curriculum through courses such as History, Philosophy, or Literature.
Far from being a "dead language," Latin is alive and well! It lives in the Catholic Church through its liturgy, daily use, and official documents. It lives in the English language which draws major portions of its vocabulary from Latin. It lives in legal documents, scientific language, and countless other fields that rely on its precision and order. In fact, it can even be claimed that Latin is a foundational language for anyone who hopes to fully grasp Western culture and tradition.
The Latin and Humanities Teacher prepares thoughtful, well-structured lessons that help students develop mastery of Latin grammar, translation, vocabulary, and syntax while also deepening their understanding of the classical world and its lasting influence on literature, philosophy, theology, and history. In Humanities courses, the teacher guides students through close reading, careful analysis, lively discussion, and written expression, encouraging them to wrestle with important ideas and enduring questions.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in Latin, Classics, History, Literature, Philosophy, or a related field (a master's degree preferred), strong communication and classroom leadership skills, and a willingness to teach within the classical liberal arts tradition. Above all, the teacher should be committed to forming students who think clearly, speak well, and pursue wisdom with seriousness and joy.
The candidate must be a practicing Catholic and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium. Candidates must demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills and possess a track record of contributing to the vision and mission of an apostolic and educational enterprise.
In addition to their teaching responsibilities, faculty at Chesterton Academies participate in the House system, which is designed to promote character and virtue, and help students grow in holiness.
