The Assistant Building and Grounds Manager supports the mission of Blessed Sacrament Parish by assisting in maintenance activities, performing repairs and routine tasks, conducting custodial duties to maintain cleanliness and hygiene, ensuring the safety and functionality of parish facilities, and supporting staff and volunteers, all while upholding Catholic values in professional and personal conduct. This role is integral to fostering a faith-centered environment and promoting the Parish's mission to "Facilitate an Encounter with Christ."
Primary Duties:
Maintenance and Repair Management:
o Assist in reviewing job assignments to determine work priorities and schedule repair and maintenance activities to ensure continuous operations.
o Perform small construction projects, repairs, and improvements, or negotiate and contract with external vendors on behalf of the parish.
o Support the oversight of major repairs and building projects in collaboration with the parish administrator, pastor, staff, committees, and professionals.
o Inspect operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards, and direct maintenance on all building and grounds components, including developing a preventative maintenance program.
o Help plan, develop, and implement new methods and procedures to improve operations, minimize costs, and optimize labor and materials utilization.
o Assist in establishing optimum standards for purchasing materials and supplies, identifying alternative sources and vendors, and ensuring accurate receipt, storage, and use.
Custodial Responsibilities:
o As directed by supervisor - perform routine janitorial tasks, including cleaning bathrooms (sanitizing fixtures, floors, and surfaces), vacuuming carpets, dusting, mopping floors, emptying trash receptacles, and other general cleaning duties to maintain a hygienic and welcoming environment.
o Ensure all parish facilities, including worship spaces, offices, classrooms, and common areas, are cleaned and prepared for daily use, events, and liturgical activities.
o Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, reporting needs to the supervisor for efficient inventory management.
Supervisory and Coordination:
o Coordinate activities of subordinates and volunteers to complete assigned tasks, providing training to improve performance and acquaint them with parish policies.
o Assist in the direction supervision of part-time employees and volunteers, including planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints; and resolving problems in accordance with parish policies.
o Confer with Building and Grounds Supervisor, human resources, and pastor to resolve maintenance issues, improve operations, and address grievances.
o Participate in securing parish buildings as directed.
Budgeting and Reporting:
o Support the preparation of the department budget and monitor expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility.
o Help review production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify activities.
o Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters related to parish operations.

Qualifications:
• Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Reasoning ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various forms.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, handle objects, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds.
• Ability to work in environments with moving parts, weather extremes, electrical risks, and occasional high places.
