    Job Summary:

    The Facilities Manager is responsible for maintenance of the structures, systems, equipment, and grounds on campus. The Facilities Manager performs and supervises tasks related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, environmental, safety, custodial, event coordination, and preventive maintenance. The position reports to the Business Manager and operates under some supervision with latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.

    Ministerial Character

    The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the Parish (St. Helen Catholic Church - Georgetown, Texas) which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ's mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

    Positions employed at St. Helen Catholic Church - Georgetown, Texas help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

    Essential Job Duties:
    • Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Helen Catholic Church in both professional and personal life. Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church. Continuously grow in ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
    • Manage all and/or perform work related to maintenance on campus, ensuring to meet code requirements while remaining in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
    • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance repairs and parish wide inventory list. Ensure a comprehensive preventative maintenance program is in place.
    • Mange annual facility budget. Obtain bids for repairs and maintenance. Supervise contractors and vendors.
    • Manage the facilities staff and the facility work order system. Ensure timely set up, take down, custodian-services, and cleaning on campus.
    • Serve as primary contact for IT, telephone system, audio visual systems, security and alarm system, and copiers. Schedule traffic control with Georgetown Police Department.
    • Recruit, lead and work with parish volunteers to help assist and complete some maintenance tasks.
    • Keep updated the Emergency Action Plan. Oversee safety protocols and security systems on campus.
    • Participate in special projects such as the Master Planning, facilities development and redevelopment.
    • Use effective and appropriate supervision techniques with assigned staff to maximize employee morale and effectiveness.
    • Maintains availability throughout the week in order to serve the needs of the parish to include pastor, staff, and volunteers during and outside of normal church office hours.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge of Roman Catholic teachings and parish structure.
    • Knowledge of large facility systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
    • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, power equipment, and terminology of building trades.
    • Knowledge of general cleaning practices with household type chemicals and equipment.
    • Ability to work in a multi-cultural parish serving various cultures and a wide range of age groups.
    • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with staff, clergy, and laity.
    • Ability to read labels, use cleaning chemicals safely, follow safety protocols, and use the appropriate tools for each task.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
    • Ability to operate various word-processing software, spreadsheets, and database programs.
    • Ability to work independently at a fast pace, have attention to details, and to perform repetitive jobs.
    • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
    • Ability to proficiently communicate in English (writing, reading, and conversing). Bilingual (English/Spanish writing, reading, and conversing) preferred.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    Education and Trainings:
    • High School Diploma or GED acceptable to Texas Education Agency.
    Experience:
    • At least five (5) years of grounds and maintenance experience for large facilities.
    Language:
    • English (proficient in writing, reading and conversing).
    Catholic Requirement:
    • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
    Licenses/Certifications:
    • Type II or Universal EPA Certification under Section 608 of The Clean Air Act.
    • Valid Texas driver's license.
    • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

    Working Conditions:
    • All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.
    • The Parish is an at-will employer.
    • All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.
    • Working in a fast paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
    • Working on weekends, evenings and some holidays will be required.
    • Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct and speech including Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
    • Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
    • Will be required to use personal vehicle to drive off-site locations.
