Why do you want to work at Saint Peter's? • 24/7 Perpetual Adoration • Beautiful, reverent liturgy • An amazing, happy parish staff • A supportive, encouraging, prayerful pastor • A parish that is spiritually on fire, transforming lives • 75 people entering the Church this Easter!
St. Peter's Catholic Church is a thriving parish located on the coast in charming and beautiful Beaufort, South Carolina. We are seeking to form intentional disciples, set hearts on fire with love for Christ as "a light for Beaufort."
Everything flows from the Mass and the Eucharist. We are seeking to hire a Director of Sacred Music who will help our congregation experience the beauty and joy of heaven through sacred music.
The Director of Sacred Music has a pivotal role in the spiritual life of the church. This individual is a strong team player, expert organist and responsible staff member. Expectation of attendance is for weekend Masses (currently 5 Masses), Holy Days of Obligation, and rehearsals with choir. During the school year, he or she would also serve at the school Mass each Thursday and lead a weekly practice of our children's choir. (The school has their own music teacher.)
The Director of Sacred Music would be assisted by a part-time music director who is available to help with funerals and marriages, and to fill in during vacation or illness.
We would like to hire as soon as possible, but we are willing to work with a candidate so that he or she can ensure the current parish is left in good hands. Our current director is retiring to spend more time with her children, but she is happy to continue helping during this search.
• Bachelor's degree in music, Master's degree preferred • Practicing Catholic preferred • Experience is preferred, but we would be willing to talk to a great candidate who is about to finish their studies • Facilitate congregational singing and worship through the excellent execution of hymns • Ability to mentor volunteer talent to include cantors of all ages and stages of development • Maintain an accurate account of organ needs and maintenance and the music ministry/liturgy budget • Successfully complete the Diocese of Charleston application process before hire, which includes safe environment training and background check • Spanish language skills are desired but not required (we have one Spanish Mass each weekend) • Must have reliable personal transportation • This is a full-time position
