Job Title: Part-Time First Grade Assistant
Overview
Holy Family Classical School seeks a joyful and mission-aligned Part-Time First Grade Assistant to support the classroom teacher in cultivating an orderly, joyful, and academically rich classroom rooted in the Catholic and classical tradition. The First Grade Assistant helps create an environment where students grow in virtue, develop strong academic foundations, and learn to love truth, goodness, and beauty.
Working closely with the classroom teacher, the assistant supports instruction, classroom management, and student formation. This role contributes to the daily rhythm of the classroom by helping maintain structure, attentiveness, and care for each child.
As a ministerial role, the First Grade Assistant models Catholic virtue and participates in forming students spiritually, intellectually, and morally.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support
Assist the First Grade teacher with daily classroom routines and instructional activities.
Support small-group or individual instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher.
Help prepare classroom materials, organize supplies, and maintain a well-ordered learning environment.
Reinforce classroom expectations and help guide students in practicing virtue and respectful behavior.
Student Supervision & Care
Provide attentive supervision during classroom activities, transitions, and other designated times.
Support students who need additional guidance with tasks, organization, or focus.
Assist with classroom management to ensure a calm and productive learning environment.
Instructional Assistance
Work with small groups of students to reinforce phonics-based reading instruction, handwriting, or mathematics skills as directed by the teacher.
Assist with grading simple assignments, organizing student work, and preparing learning materials.
Help implement classroom routines that support strong habits of attention, diligence, and responsibility.
Mission & School Life
Model Catholic virtues of patience, charity, and respect in interactions with students and faculty.
Participate in school Masses, prayer, and school events as appropriate.
Support the school's mission of forming Christian disciples through classical education.
Qualifications
Practicing Catholic preferred and supportive of the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church.
Experience working with young children in a school or childcare setting preferred.
Familiarity with phonics-based reading instruction preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and school leadership.
Strong organizational skills and a positive, nurturing demeanor.
Appreciation for or willingness to learn about classical education and Catholic pedagogy.
Additional Requirements
Maintain compliance with diocesan requirements, including VIRTUS certification and child protection policies.
Adhere to the policies outlined in the Diocese of Tulsa Employee Handbook, the Diocese of Tulsa Catholic Schools Office Handbook, and the Holy Family Classical School Faculty and Staff Handbook.
Attend required trainings and meetings as determined by school leadership.
