Position Summary:
The 4th/5th Grade Science and Religion Teacher is responsible for providing a faith-centered, academically rigorous learning environment where students grow in their understanding of science, develop critical thinking skills, and deepen their Catholic faith. The teacher will plan and deliver engaging science lessons aligned to NYS standards and the diocesan religion curriculum, integrate Catholic values throughout instruction, and foster a supportive classroom culture that reflects the mission of St. Ephrem Catholic Academy.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum:
Develop and deliver daily lessons in Science for Grades 4 and 5, aligned with NYS Next Generation Science Standards.
Teach Religion for Grades 4 and 5, using the Diocesan-approved curriculum and resources.
Integrate Catholic faith and values across subject areas.
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
Incorporate hands-on experiments, STEM activities, and technology to engage students in scientific inquiry.
Prepare students for assessments, projects, and schoolwide academic initiatives.
Classroom Environment:
Create a safe, nurturing, and orderly classroom that reflects Catholic values.
Maintain high expectations for academic achievement and behavior.
Implement positive classroom management strategies consistent with school policy.
Foster respectful relationships among students, encouraging collaboration and personal responsibility.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work collaboratively with colleagues, resource teachers, and administration.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and faith formation.
Participate actively in faculty meetings, grade-level meetings, and professional development.
Support school-wide faith activities, liturgies, service projects, and community events.
Professional Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance using school systems.
Prepare report cards and progress reports as required.
Supervise students during lunch, recess, and dismissal as assigned.
Uphold the mission of St. Ephrem Catholic Academy and model Catholic virtues in word and action.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field.
Valid NYS Teacher Certification (or eligibility).
Catechist Certification or willingness to complete Diocesan Religion Certification.
Practicing Catholic in good standing who can faithfully teach Catholic doctrine.
Strong knowledge of elementary science instruction and inquiry-based learning.
Preferred:
Prior teaching experience in Catholic or private schools.
Experience with STEM curriculum or hands-on science labs.
Familiarity with Google Classroom and educational technology tools.
