The ideal candidate is an energetic, joyful and organized instructor responsible for planning, preparing, teaching, grading and sharing his/her love for History. This is part of our integrated core curriculum in which students investigate primary sources and artifacts from the Ancient/Greco-Roman world (9th Grade), through the Medieval (10th), Renaissance (11th), and into the Modern US (12th). These courses are complemented by Literature courses reading sources from the same periods. The willingness to teach a sequence of semester-long courses in Civics and Economics (12th Grade) is also required. Candidates need at least a bachelor's degree and experience teaching History or Social Studies at the middle or high school level.
Although there may be need for a course at the middle school level, the primary responsibility is at the high school level. You will join a History faculty comprised of three other teachers. In the future, there may be opportunity to model the integration of knowledge for students by teaching in multiple disciplines as your interests and abilities allow.
This role may be filled by several part-time instructors or a single full-time instructor. A full-time teacher will be benefits-eligible, including 75% tuition remission for one's child enrolled in CKA.
If you enjoy small class sizes, a close community, engaging students and flexible working hours please send your resume to the attention of Dr. Alexander B. Miller at [email protected] and tell us why you would like to join our faculty. For questions regarding this unique opportunity, call (203)329-8296.
