Chesterton Academy of St. Benedict, a classical high school in the Catholic tradition, seeks a talented and joyful teacher to teach music history and performance on a part-time basis for the 2026-2027 academic year.
The music sequence is an essential part of the Chesterton Academy curriculum and required for all students every year. Students are taught singing and aural skills, musicology, and music history and theory. Choir studies follow a historical timeline: freshman year begins with the ancient and medieval periods. Successive years see a steady progression through Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and contemporary musical periods. The music teacher will also serve as the all-school choir director and will be responsible for choir performances.
A candidate should possess either a degree in Music or demonstrate extensive experience in the field of music. The candidate shall be a practicing Catholic and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium. Candidates should demonstrate excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and possess a track record of contributing to the vision and mission of an apostolic and educational enterprise.
In addition to their teaching responsibilities, faculty at Chesterton Academies participate in the House system, which is designed to promote character and virtue, and help students grow in holiness. Part-time faculty members are encouraged to participate in the spiritual life of the school.
Time commitment: 2-3 school days per week, 4-6 class hours per week.
