SUMMARY The Director of Evangelization & Catechesis serves as a missionary leader within Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish in Utica & New Hartford, NY, guiding the parish's efforts to form missionary disciples through evangelization, catechesis, and sacramental life. This is a full-time parish leadership role rooted in the life and mission of Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish. The Director works closely with the Pastor and parish leadership team to implement and advance a unified vision of discipleship that integrates evangelization, family centered catechesis, and lifelong faith formation. A central focus of this role is strengthening and expanding a Family Life Catechesis model that equips parents as the primary educators of their children in the faith and fosters a lived relationship with Jesus Christ within the home and parish community. This position calls for a leader who is both relational and strategic-someone who can build trust, form teams, and translate vision into concrete pathways of discipleship. Primary work location is Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, serving both Utica and New Hartford campuses. Schedule includes regular evenings and occasional weekends aligned with parish programming and formation opportunities. Performance will be evaluated by the Pastor in accordance with the responsibilities of the role and parish mission. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead Evangelization & Discipleship Page 1 of 3 • Implement and advance a unified vision integrating evangelization, catechesis, sacramental preparation, and lifelong formation within the parish • Foster a culture of invitation, hospitality, and outreach • Lead key evangelization initiatives (Lent, Advent, parish missions) • Support outreach to disengaged Catholics and those seeking to reconnect with the Church Oversee Faith Formation (Family-Centered) • Strengthen and expand Family Life Catechesis as a central model of parish formation • Equip parents as primary educators in the faith • Ensure formation leads to a lived relationship with Jesus Christ and participation in sacramental life • Oversee children's catechesis and sacramental preparation within a family-centered framework • Develop opportunities for adult faith formation and ongoing discipleship Lead & Develop Teams • Supervise: o Coordinator of Teen Formation (Sacramental Preparation) o Coordinator of Early Childhood Catechesis • Collaborate closely with the Youth Minister and Young Adult Ministry leaders to ensure a unified approach to evangelization and discipleship across youth and young adults • Collaborate with parish ministry leaders across OCIA, sacramental preparation, and adult formation • Recruit, train, and support catechists and volunteers • Foster strong communication, collaboration, and unity across parish ministries Strategic & Operational Leadership • Align all ministries to a unified vision of discipleship within Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish • Oversee planning, evaluation, and improvement of programs • Ensure compliance with diocesan policies, including Safe Environment requirements, and maintain accurate sacramental records • Coordinate communication and scheduling across ministries • Support clear and consistent pathways from initial encounter to ongoing discipleship • This role provides strategic leadership and coordination for parish formation efforts while working collaboratively with clergy and ministry leaders in areas of sacramental preparation Page 2 of 3 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • Practicing Catholic with a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ • Strong knowledge of the Catholic faith and commitment to Church teaching • Experience in evangelization, catechesis, or parish ministry • Demonstrated leadership and team-building ability • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Self-motivated, organized, and mission-driven • Commitment to maintaining a safe and appropriate environment for all participants • Safe Environment Certification (or willingness to obtain) EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE • Degree or formation in theology, catechetics, or pastoral ministry preferred • Experience supervising staff or leading teams • Experience with adult formation and discipleship models • Experience leading evangelization, discipleship, or parish renewal initiatives preferred COMPENSATION & POSITION STRUCTURE • Competitive compensation: $24-$32/hour based on experience and qualifications • Full-Time Position (35 hours/week with benefits eligibility) • Evenings and occasional weekends required • This position has strong long-term leadership potential within the life and mission of the paris
