Vision: Under the direction of the pastor, this person will accompany the cantor and choir at the organ/piano during weekend liturgies, praise and worship nights and mornings. The person will also recruit, lead and coordinate adult and children's choirs.
Responsibilities: -recruit for, build, direct or coordinate all parish music including an adult choir and children's choir -plan, schedule, direct, coordinate, perform music which is liturgically appropriate for weekend parish liturgies and designated liturgies (e.g. weddings, funerals) and special celebrations, (e.g. parish feast day, Taize, Lessons & Carols, etc.) -invite/develop parish volunteers for roles in music and liturgy, e.g. cantors - schedule volunteer and paid musicians (cantors, instrumentalists) -develop and adhere to music budget -oversee maintenance of church-owned instruments -maintain streaming/copyright licenses as it relates to music -select hymnals/worship aides for parish -oversee liturgical-based technology, e.g. sound system -attend parish staff meetings and retreats -music/liturgy based updates to Director of Communication -preparation of weekly binders for Lector and Celebrant
Requirements: Our ideal candidate is a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church. He/She will also possess: -strong knowledge of and appreciation for Catholic liturgy -professional competence in organ and piano -proficient in reading music -considerable vocal skills -wide knowledge of and competence in Catholic theology and Catholic music traditions from Gregorian chant to traditional hymns to contemporary Catholic music, including multiple Mass settings -Bachelor's degree in Music (Master's degree a plus) -excellent collaboration and teamwork skills -good communication skills -five years' experience as Music Director for a Catholic parish or equivalent position -experience in conducting, directing and building adult choir -capability in building, conducting and directing a children's choir
Working Conditions: The church building will function as the primary space for ministry and tasks. A small office area within the church is provided, as well as a communal workspace within the parish office/rectory.
Physical Requirements: Some light lifting of hymnals, music books, etc.
