    St. Mary's High School - Westfield, Massachusetts
    Full-Time Position | 2026-2027 School Year

    St. Mary's High School is a Catholic, college-preparatory school committed to forming students intellectually, spiritually, and morally. Rooted in a rich tradition dating back to 1898, St. Mary's serves students from across Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut, fostering a community centered on faith, academic excellence, and service.

    Position Overview
    St. Mary's High School seeks a dynamic, mission-driven Humanities Teacher to join our faculty. This educator will teach a combination of Ancient Literature, Ancient History, and Medieval History, helping students develop strong reading, writing, analytical, and historical thinking skills.

    The ideal candidate is passionate about integrating literature and history, guiding students through foundational texts and civilizations while fostering critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the human experience through a Catholic lens.

    Primary Responsibilities
    • Teach Ancient Literature, focusing on classical and foundational texts (e.g., Greek and Roman literature, early drama, mythology).
    • Teach Ancient History, including early civilizations, Greece, and Rome.
    • Teach Medieval History, including the development of Europe, the Church, and global connections during the Middle Ages.
    • Design and implement engaging, student-centered lesson plans aligned with school curriculum goals.
    • Integrate reading, writing, discussion, and analytical skills across disciplines.
    • Foster a classroom environment that promotes intellectual curiosity, respect, and faith formation.
    • Assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative methods.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and curriculum development.
    • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and administration.
    • Participate fully in school life, including retreats, liturgies, and community events.

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in English, History, Humanities, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
    • Teaching experience at the high school level preferred.
    • Strong background in classical literature and early world history.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to engage and inspire a diverse range of learners.
    • Commitment to the mission of Catholic education.

    Preferred Qualities
    • Familiarity with classical texts such as The Iliad, The Odyssey, The Aeneid, and early Church history.
    • Experience with discussion-based and writing-intensive instruction.
    • Ability to integrate faith and reason in the classroom.
    • Willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities, clubs, or coaching.
