This is a paid, part-time internship of 30-35 hours a week with a tentative start date of June 1, 2026, and ending August 7, 2026. This position will be based onsite in Arlington, VA.
The primary function of the Communications Intern is to assist the Office of Communications with various communications projects to support the needs of the diocese, its parishes, and Catholic Charities. Throughout the course of the internship, the Communications Intern will support several members of the communications team in planning and assisting with projects as needed.
Over the course of the internship, duties will include: • Assisting with writing draft scripts, statements, messages, and press releases • Assisting with planning the social media content calendar for the diocese and Catholic Charities. • Reviewing diocesan and Catholic Charities webpages to identify, recommend, and draft content (text) updates • Working with the Director of Media Relations to research and identify parish initiatives and stories of interest for press release content • Assisting the digital media team with video and podcast recordings • Assisting the digital media team with digital asset management • Other duties as assigned
This position is overseen by the Deputy Communications Director. Interaction with most members of the communications team and other chancery staff will occur daily.
Qualifications: • Rising sophomore in college or beyond pursuing an undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, English or a related field, preferably with the aspiration of working for the Catholic Church in the Catholic Diocese of Arlington • Excellent written and oral communication abilities • Strong organizational skills with detail orientation • Self-motivated with proven ability to work independently within a team environment • Must be a Catholic who is grounded in the teachings of the Church and who has a desire and ability to promote the mission. • Analytical and research skills preferred • Resident of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington for 3 or more years preferred • Familiarity with the Catholic Diocese of Arlington and its strategic plan helpful
