Primary Responsibilities Music Instruction (Pre-K-8) Grammar Stage (Pre-K-5): Teach foundational musical skills: pitch matching, rhythm, solfege, movement, and singing. Introduce students to sacred hymnody, chant, and folk songs. Foster memorization of hymns and liturgical responses. Integrate music with poetry, history, and seasonal liturgical themes. Logic Stage (6-8): Teach music theory fundamentals (notation, scales, intervals, harmony). Develop choral technique and part-singing. Introduce students to composers within the Western classical tradition. Cultivate attentive listening and musical analysis.
Sacred Music & Liturgy Prepare and direct student choirs for school Masses and liturgical celebrations. Teach students to sing parts of the Mass (e.g., Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus Dei) in Latin and English. Select music consistent with Church teaching and appropriate liturgical norms. Collaborate with clergy and administration to support the sacramental life of the school.
Performance & Community Engagement Organize and direct seasonal concerts (e.g., Advent/Christmas, Spring). Prepare students for performances that reflect the dignity and beauty of the classical tradition. Encourage participation in school and parish music initiatives where appropriate.
Classroom Environment Maintain a structured, joyful, and orderly classroom. Foster discipline, attentiveness, and reverence during rehearsals. Encourage teamwork, perseverance, and excellence.
Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, or related field. Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church. Experience teaching music to children. Proficiency in vocal instruction and basic music theory. Preferred Familiarity with Gregorian chant and Catholic sacred music traditions. Experience directing children's choir. Ability to accompany on piano and/or organ. Knowledge of Latin pronunciation for liturgical use. Background in classical education or liberal arts pedagogy.
