    Description

    General Summary:
    The Director of Worship and Liturgical Formation for the Diocese of Gaylord is a primary resource to the bishop and the diocese for the ongoing renewal of the liturgical life and formation of the Church. The Director of Worship and Liturgical Formation manages and directs diocesan worship activities; provides consultation and resources related to worship; and develops and administers programs of liturgical formation consistent with diocesan policies, goals, and guidelines.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Plans, prepares, and oversees the diocesan liturgies for ordinations, Chrism Mass, Rite of Election, and other special occasion liturgies; participates in planning of special Cathedral liturgies (e.g., Christmas, Holy Week, and other special events) at which the bishop presides, participates in planning of ecumenical and interreligious liturgies.
    • Serves as an episcopal Master of Ceremonies at cathedral and parish liturgies at which the bishop presides, as well as manages a team of volunteer Masters of Ceremonies.
    • Provides support to priests and deacons and consults with parish committees and staffs on liturgical matters such as rites and sacraments, liturgical ministries, worship environment, and music.
    • Advises the bishop on liturgical norms and guidelines, approval of parish worship space renovations, the diocesan liturgical calendar, and other topics related to the Sacred Liturgy as requested.
    • Develops professional working relationships and collaboration with individuals representing a variety of liturgical traditions and viewpoints.
    • Assists parishes to support and provide for the initial and on-going formation of liturgy committees.
    • Implements the diocesan liturgical vision and develops liturgical programming that can assist in advancing that vision, including the Diocesan Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion Certificate program.
    • Serves as lead collaborator with Director of Faith Formation, promotes the full implementation of the Order of Christian Initiation fir Adults (OCIA) by parishes, and serves as a resource to clergy and parish leaders in the individual cases.
    • Plans and monitors annual operating budget; prepares and maintains office files and records.
    • Serves ex officio on the Diocesan Worship Commission and Diocesan Building Commission.
    • Participates in national and regional activities of the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions (FDLC).
    • Assumes any other tasks or responsibilities as delegated by the bishop.

    Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in liturgical studies or theology.
    • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church.
    • Three to five (3 to 5) years of pastoral experience.
    • Knowledge of Roman Catholic Doctrine, Church law, and religious and liturgical programs and services.
    • Understanding of liturgical music.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Adobe Creative Studio and Microsoft Office applications including, but not limited to, Word, Outlook, and Publisher.
    • Must be able to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
    • Willingness to travel in and out of the diocese as needed.
    • Possession of a valid driver's license and proof of current auto insurance.

    Physical Demands:

    • Periods of prolonged standing, sitting, and working with hands in repetitive motion tasks.
    • Requires lifting, standing, stooping, kneeling, and bending.
    • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
