    Description

The Thomistic Institute has student chapters at over 100 university campuses across the world. These chapters organize lectures and reading groups pertaining to classical Catholic theology and philosophy, as well as the arts and culture. Through these chapters, the TI seeks to advance the appreciation of the Catholic intellectual tradition in general, and of the Thomistic tradition in particular, in the midst of secular university campuses.

The Campus Programs Coordinator works in close collaboration with the Lead Campus Chapters Coordinator and other TI team members and has on-the-ground responsibility for guiding and coordinating the student leaders of a segment of our campus chapters to plan and execute Thomistic Institute campus events.

This is a full-time, in-office, entry-level position involved in directly collaborating with university students. One to two years of professional work experience are preferred. The position requires residency in the greater Washington, D.C., metro area.

The Campus Programs Coordinator reports to the Lead Campus Chapters Coordinator, who is the position's direct supervisor.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Work with student leaders to plan events promoting the Catholic intellectual tradition on predominantly secular university campuses. This includes strategizing with and coaching students about how to evangelize the intellectual life on their campuses through these events, guiding students as they select speakers and topics, prompting students to complete all tasks, and helping students contact the speakers and arrange the campus logistics for the events.

    2. Support the execution of these events during the school year, in collaboration with the other TI team members (for example, creating and overseeing advertising and promotion for events, planning speaker travel, maintaining database entries about each event, creating registration forms and event pages, tracking student participation at each campus, and monitoring expenses).

    3. Aid in developing and implementing new strategies for the intellectual evangelization of each campus through TI programming (e.g., on-campus lectures, seminars, conferences, intellectual retreats, and new forms of campus outreach and student engagement).

    4. Attend events on occasion and publicly represent the TI at them welcoming participants, moderating discussions, introducing speakers, etc.).

    5. As assigned by the Director or the Lead Campus Chapters Coordinator, takes on responsibility for other related projects (for example, leading a membership drive or organizing an event for TI alumni).

    6. Help plan and run our annual Student Leadership/VERITAS Conference in Washington, D.C.

    Important traits & skills:

At least a B.A. degree or its equivalent
Knowledge of the Catholic intellectual tradition and motivation to spread the faith by intellectual evangelization
    Organized, responsible, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
Comfort and precision in handling project logistics for many projects simultaneously
Familiarity with Excel and Salesforce (a CRM database) is a significant plus
Experience in communications, social media management, and/or graphic design is a plus

The Thomistic Institute is a research institute of the Pontifical Faculty of the Dominican House of Studies and an apostolate of the Dominican friars of the Province of St. Joseph. The person holding this position will represent the TI and the Dominican friars in public, will bear witness to and teach the Catholic faith, and will at times participate in (and even lead others in) Catholic prayers. Applicants must be practicing Catholics in good standing who assent to and profess the Catholic faith in its entirety as presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

As part of the position, the Campus Programs Coordinator will be entitled to audit one course per semester at the Dominican House of Studies (e.g., M.A. level classes in philosophy or theology), during office hours.

All members of the TI team are encouraged to participate in the regular liturgical life of the Dominican friars (e.g., step away from work for Mass, the daily midday rosary, the divine office, etc.).

    Salary: Commensurate with experience

    Benefits:

    1. Medical benefits and a retirement plan.
    2. Two weeks of paid vacation; in addition, TI employees receive paid leave for most public holidays and Catholic Solemnities (e.g., the Triduum, St. Joseph's Day, Immaculate Conception), plus approximately two weeks for the Christmas/New Year's holiday.
