The Basilica of Saint Mary in Old Town Alexandria is seeking a Professional Tenor to join the Basilica Schola Cantorum, an eight-voice, all-professional ensemble in residence at the Basilica. The Schola performs a wide variety of repertoire, ranging from Gregorian Chant to works by living composers.
The position requires a commitment to Wednesday evening rehearsals from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM and the Sunday 10:00 AM Mass as well as Solemnities and Feasts throughout the year. Compensation is $125 per call, with a minimum of eight calls per month. Further opportunities are available through funerals, weddings, and cantoring non-choral Masses. Candidates should possess a minimum of a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance (or equivalent) and previous professional choral experience. Due to the limited rehearsal time and demanding repertoire, excellent sight-reading skills are essential. Experience singing Gregorian Chant is preferred.
