Job Title: Parish Maintenance Coordinator Location: St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Parish - Madison Reports To: Director of Stewardship & Operations Employment Type: Part-Time (20-25 hours per week)
Our Mission & Your Role St. Thomas Aquinas Parish is an evangelizing community where people encounter Jesus in a way that changes how they live. We are seeking a dedicated Parish Maintenance Coordinator to help steward our physical campus, ensuring it is a safe, beautiful, and prayerful environment for worship, education, and fellowship. This is a hands-on role for a skilled professional who sees their work as a service to the Lord and His people.
Key Responsibilities 1. Facility Maintenance & Repairs • Perform and coordinate routine and preventative maintenance across all parish buildings (church, hall, rectory, offices), including tasks in plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and HVAC systems. • Maintain an organized inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies. • Install furniture and fixtures as needed. • As directed by the Director of Stewardship and Operations, serve as the primary on-site contact for vendors, facilitating access and work, while the Director of Stewardship & Operations manages all contracts and financial approvals. 2. Custodial Oversight & Event Support • Work in partnership with our commercial cleaning service by performing daily clean-ups, trash removal, and addressing needs outside their schedule. • Ensure the highest level of cleanliness in worship spaces, classrooms, offices, and restrooms. • Manage the set-up and break-down for all parish activities, including Masses, weddings, funerals, and parish events. • Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for the parish rectory, in coordination with the Pastor and clergy residents. • Assist with seasonal decorating to enhance the liturgical environment. 3. Grounds & Safety Stewardship • Maintain a welcoming and safe exterior by keeping sidewalks, parking lots, and gardens clean and clear of debris and hazards. • Perform hands-on grounds work, including mowing, pruning, and snow/ice removal, and support external landscaping/snow removal vendors as directed. • Proactively identify and report all safety hazards to the Director immediately. • Adhere to all safety regulations and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment. Qualifications & Requirements Experience & Skills: • Proven proficiency in general repairs (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry). • Experience operating standard maintenance equipment (lawn mowers, snow blowers, power tools). • Strong attention to detail in cleaning, maintenance, and groundskeeping. • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks independently. • Ability to interact respectfully with clergy, staff, volunteers, and vendors. • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are a plus. Physical Requirements: • Must be able to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach. • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. • Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks daily.
Schedule, Compensation & Benefits • Schedule: Typically, Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends is required for parish events, with advance notice provided. • Compensation: $21.00 per hour.
