ABOUT THE POSITION The Major Gift Officer (MGO) is a frontline fundraiser responsible for raising $1.25M annually through the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts. This role manages a portfolio of high-capacity donors, building long-term relationships that sustain and expand the mission of the Benedict XVI Institute for Sacred Music and Divine Worship. The MGO receives a competitive salary plus incentive pay based on performance.
WHAT WILL YOU RAISE MONEY FOR? The Reverent Liturgy Project is the Benedict XVI Institute's bold national initiative, led by Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone, to help priests and parishes reclaim the beauty and depth of Catholic worship. Rooted in the vision of Pope Benedict XVI, the project equips pastors and parish music directors with resources, training, and inspiration to implement practices that foster more reverent worship, renewing parish life across the United States and forming a new generation of Catholics who encounter Christ in the sacred liturgy with reverence and awe.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Manage a portfolio of ~75-100 prospects and donors, with emphasis on gifts of $25,000 and above. • Raise $1.25M annually in major gifts. • Conduct ~12-15 substantive donor visits per month. • Collaborate with Executive Director and COO on cultivation strategies and campaign priorities. • Draft proposals, stewardship reports, and personalized donor communications. • Partner with the Executive Director on top-level donor relationships. • Represent the Institute at donor gatherings, events, and special initiatives. • Support sponsorship and underwriting efforts for Institute events and national initiatives. • Work closely with the Development Associate to ensure donor follow-up and smooth execution of cultivation steps. • Contribute to the development of overall fundraising strategy.
QUALIFICATIONS • Practicing Catholic in good standing with deep commitment to the Church's mission. • Minimum 5+ years of major gift officer experience, with a preference for at least 3+ years at the same organization. MUST HAVE DIRECT FUNDRAISING EXPERIENCE, WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WITH "TRANSFERABLE SKILLS". • Proven track record securing six- and seven-figure gifts. • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills. • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours. • Results-driven with high personal integrity. • Candidates must be U.S. citizens and authorized to work in the United States
