Ministry Title: Director for Religious Education (DRE) Reports To: Pastor
SUMMARY A Director for Religious Education (DRE) administers faith formation programs for children in Sacramental Preparation years and Family Catechetical events throughout the year. This Director works with the pastor or parish administrator to assist parishioners in coming to know the mind and heart of Jesus Christ through programs of catechesis for faith formation including - but not limited to - the reception of sacraments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITES (includes all of the following) Sacramental Preparation for Sacrament of Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation for children. Sunday liturgy for the children in the parish Weekly kid's bulletin Children's Programming • opportunities for prayer and worship, and activities that encourage a relationship with God and the church community. This will involve parents and families as well, recognizing the crucial role parents play in their children's faith development. Prepare and maintain an annual budget for the ministry
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Works collaboratively with the pastor, catechists and related staff members.
QUALIFICATIONS: A candidate for this position is an active member of the Roman Catholic Church in good standing (with no impediment to the reception of the Sacrament.) To perform this ministry successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Integrates ministry with sacramental and prayer life. At least a bachelor's degree in theology, religious studies, or related field, and at least three years or experience in administration, or religious education ministry. Understands and follows diocesan policies and guidelines Is dedicated to personal ongoing formation and spiritual life
COMMUNICATION SKILLS Is collaborative and skilled in working with a parish staff Able to work independently when necessary Able to run meetings and utilize public speaking skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills Has good listening skills and is prudent in dealing with confidential matters Excellent computer skills, can keep up with and update the latest technology to benefit the ministry Input and maintain data using Parish soft and Microsoft programs Is able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
This is a 30 hours a week position. With flexible hours during the week, regular office hours, and requires weekend hours at times during the year.
