JOB DESCRIPTION Director of Faith Formation, St. Basil Parish, South Haven, Michigan
St. Basil, South Haven, is seeking a Coordinator of Religious Education to join a supportive and collaborative staff in a vibrant parish on the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. Position includes Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Sacrament Preparation, OCIA, General Faith Formation for children in grades K - 8 and their families. Programming is primarily in English but proficiency in Spanish is desirable. The Director will be free to configure the program according to professional judgment and parish needs.
St. Basil is part of a collaborative of three parishes along the lakeshore; this position focuses on St. Basil, but there are opportunities for synergy and collaboration.

OVERVIEW: This was a volunteer position in previous years. The Parish Parochial School closed at the conclusion of the 2024-25 academic year. The candidate chosen will be prepared to evaluate current programming (minimal) and develop a full and comprehensive parish faith formation program for ages 3 - adult. Initial emphasis will be on sacraments of initiation and on the junior high (7 - 8) segment, building outward from those areas. The parish respects and builds on Tradition but is fully engaged in the Renewal of the Second Vatican Council.

Participate in biweekly staff meetings Conduct an effective survey of parish families to determine demographics and needs. Work in collaboration with those ministering to a growing Spanish-speaking population. (Children & teens generally are fluent in English; parents may be Spanish-speaking.) Conduct sessions weekly on a schedule that meets the needs of parish families. Develop programming for the following age groups (support, professional development, and consultation are provided) Ages 3 - 6 (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd) Reconciliation Preparation (Grade 2) First Eucharist Preparation (Grade 3) "Tweens" programming (Grades 4 - 6) Junior High Ministry (Grades 7 & &) (Grade 8 includes initial Confirmation Prep) Confirmation preparation (Grade 9) Work with highly capable volunteer coordinator to develop OCIA team Collaborate with other staff members on seasonal offerings for adults Include parent sessions keyed to each age level
Qualifications: BA in Theology, Religious Education, or related field. 2-5 years experience in this or a related field Informed, Practicing Catholic in good standing Demonstrated Interpersonal Skills
