Position Title: Parish Accountant
Supervisor's Title: Director of Administrative Services (DAS)
Status:Part time / Hourly/ Non-Exempt (20-25 hrs/week)
Job Summary: The Parish Accountant is responsible for maintaining and managing all financial information of the Parish and School. The Parish Accountant reports to the Director of Administrative Services and works with the Financial Assistant to implement the accounting functions of St. Mary's Congregation.

Finds and proposes savings and efficiencies whenever possible
Maintains accurate filing, recordkeeping, and reporting systems for all parish financial matters. Responsible for the General Ledger & Financial Reporting
Administers cash flow management with purchasing and payment schedules clearly defined
Monitors the collection, counting, recording, depositing, and reconciling of parish & school revenue from all sources. Performs daily and monthly banking functions (deposits, transfers, ACH) including reconciliations of all accounts
Oversees/directs parishioner volunteers who perform our weekly "Cash Count" of offertory and parishioner contributions
Acts as a resource to our ministries in all financial matters, from planning to reporting
Responsible for auditing proper coding of expenses
Parish contact with financial institutions in collaboration with the DAS
Ensures internal controls consistent with Archdiocesan policies
Provides accurate, timely reports to the DAS and department heads; with some additional reports created as needed during the parish budget cycle
Payroll/HR Support
Completes payroll and manages onboarding/terminations, etc. using PayChex Flex
Performs Employee benefit management (insurance, pensions, salary changes)
Collaborates with the DAS on compensation, benefits, and financial processes
Annual tax form preparation/distribution (vendor 1099's; employee W-2's; 1095-C; etc)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
K: Knowledge
A dynamic Catholic faith. We desire someone whose relationship with Jesus is active and personal
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required, Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance preferred
Work experience in accounting or bookkeeping is preferred
Non-profit experience preferred
Working knowledge in MS Office, accounting software, and general office technology
Experience with ParishSoft, PayChex, Parish Data System, Vanco applications a plus
Ability to collaborate as part of a team

ADA Physical Requirements:
This role functions in an office environment and uses standard office equipment. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear.
The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods; use hands; reach with hands and arms
Close vision required for paperwork and computer
Able to utilize a computer keyboard, monitor, and telephone

Nature of Supervision Received:
This position requires moderate supervision, but works largely independently within the established procedures for the maintenance of our office efficiency and visitor and staff experience. Changes in those procedures should be agreed upon with the Supervisor as they may impact large numbers of parishoners.

The Employee is expected to take initiative and make decisions based on the mission and vision of the parish and/or school and direction from the supervisor and/or Pastor. This includes behaving in a way consistent with our Parish Mission and Catholic values. This role has an element of expense control and stewardship.
