The Director of Music and Liturgy's primary responsibility is to ensure excellent liturgy and sacraments are experienced by all while supporting the values of the Church and Her mission to evangelize all peoples. The ideal candidate is a professional who is deeply rooted in a personal understanding and appreciation of the Roman Catholic faith and Liturgy. The Director is responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of music within the many parish celebrations and events.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
K: Knowledge
1. Practicing Catholic required
2. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required, Masters in Theology / Liturgy preferred
3. Three years of experience leading Catholic liturgies, including liturgical documents, and music to support required
4. Knowledge of the Roman Missal, lectionary, liturgical calendar, liturgical norms and regulations, and liturgical tradition and practice required
5. Supervisory experience preferred
6. Working knowledge in MS Office products required
7. Valid driver's license required

Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative Responsibilities:
Manages, schedules, supervises, and evaluates Liturgy Administrative Assistant
Ensures the initial and ongoing formation of liturgical ministries, such as Hospitality
Ministers, Sacristans, Art & Environment, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion, Altar Servers, Sound / light and video Ministers, Linen and Music
Ministries.
o Recruit (new and existing), screen, train, enrich, and develop volunteers in ministries
o Meet regularly with ministry teams, e.g., practices, rehearsals, and meetings
o Coordinates, prepares, and schedules special liturgies, in accordance with
Archdiocesan offices
Budget Responsibilities:
o Prepares departmental budget
o Monthly monitor expenses and revenues
o Authorizes respective expenditures within the approved budget
o Attends Parish Staff meetings and Spiritual Life and Worship Committee meetings
Liturgy and Worship Responsibilities:
Coordinates the liturgical life of the parish with joyful and active participation
Fosters parishioner participation in the Mass and other liturgies
Prepares written special liturgical schedule for the year, 3 months in advance
Follows liturgical norms for Mass/service/rite with attention to needed
materials/supplies, e.g., linens, bread, wine, sacred vessels, vestments, etc.
Forms, develops, and consults with Spiritual Life and Worship Committee
Assist visiting clergy
Plans and coordinates practice(s)/rehearsals
Coordinates music with liturgical plan
Participates fully in the liturgy and greets people after the liturgy
Documents hymns, petitions, etc. for each Mass and service for future reference
Creates operating procedures for each aspect of the position
Maintain/Update worship hymnals/worship aids/booklets
Inventory liturgical supplies
Music Ministry Responsibilities:
Oversees/Plans music for all liturgies including weekend, weekday, school
liturgies, penance services, baptisms, etc
Fosters and grows parishioner participation in music
Fosters unity among all musicians to create a spirit of harmony with priest
celebrant and other liturgical ministers
Directs and accompanies adult and youth choir(s)
Teaches parishioners the hymns and Mass settings to grow participation in
liturgical music
Coordinates music e.g., instrumentalist, cantors, choirs, etc. with liturgical plan
Ensures organ, piano, and other instruments are maintained, repaired and tuned,
as needed
Expands song as prayer into the spirituality of the liturgy
Creates operating procedures for each aspect of the position
Ensures copyright and licensing requirement permissions for music
Other Responsibilities:
Ensures Mass/service, funerals, weddings, etc. have qualified and competent
musicians present
Collaborates with other staff and acts as a resource for parish/school groups
Fosters positive public relations in and outside the parish/school
Attends respective Archdiocesan and Deanery workshops/programs, as directed
Other duties as assigned

Pastor/Parish Administrator informed of the key decisions and details impacting the
