    Director of Human Resources

    Work Where Your FAITH Is! The Director of Human Resources needs to have a missionary/servant heart and love for the Catholic Church and its teachings. This person will set the direction of our Human Resources Department SMART goals and objectives that are in alignment with the Archdiocesan Pastoral Priorities and the Mary Mother of the Church Pastoral Center (MMCPC) mission statement - Do everything we can to help parishes and schools live out the Archdiocesan mission. These goals and objectives (parishes/schools/MMCPC) should include Strategic Planning, Culture, Talent Acquisition, Employee Engagement and Retention, Performance Management, Employee Development/Training, compliance with Employment Law, Strong Communication to Employees, Assisting Compensation/Benefits and Payroll/HR systems.
    Strategic Planning and Culture

    • In alignment with the Archdiocese pastoral priorities and mission statement, develop and execute a strategic plan that includes both short term and long-term goals. Discuss gap analysis and strategy with the Leadership and HR teams.
    • Evaluate, recommend and install new HR trends and best practices in alignment with our mission statement.
    • Advise and work with HR directors, department managers, and leadership (parishes/schools./MCPC) regarding HR policy, procedure and best practices.
    • Create tools for specific analysis on how effective we are on our MMCPC mission statement in relationship to HR and recommend effective, sustainable improvements.
    • Analyze Culture - What is it, what does it need to be, where are we, how do we get there.

    Employment Related - Life Cycle

    • Develop a strong cohesive talent acquisition program that could be utilized for both MMCPC and parishes/schools. How can we become a destination employer (Recruit/Hire).
    • Develop and install best practices in regards to Employee Engagement/Retention programs such as onboarding, personal and professional development/training, performance management, succession planning and total reward programs (Onboard/Train/Retain/Terminate).

    Employment Law and Compliance

    • Review our current employee policies and practices and recommend changes for best practices and compliance with appropriate legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Support and advise HR directors (strong emphasis on parishes/schools who have little to no knowledge) on HR matters for the purpose of best practices and managing organizational risk.
    • Assist with annual principal/teacher contracts as necessary.
    • Assist with all union contract negotiations.
    • As appropriate, consult with both in house counsel and other necessary legal counsel.

    Compensation and Benefits

    • Conduct periodic review of the employee wage and benefit programs to ensure delivery, current market condition for retaining employees, and cost effectiveness for the Archdiocese. Ensures compliance with appropriate policies and regulations.
    • On an annual basis research, evaluate and recommend benefit changes with the CFO.

    Administration and Management

    • Demonstrate leadership that HR is a responsive, trusted, and accessible partner to all parishes/schools/MMCPC.
    • In collaboration with direct reports set annual SMART goals in alignment with Archdiocesan pastoral priorities and MMCPC mission statement.
    • Oversee and administer MMCPC HR department budget, which includes compensation and SMART goal related expenditures.
    • Promote teamwork, collaboration, and an employee-oriented environment.
    • Oversee and ensure that the HR function has efficient systems for recording, processing, and maintaining HR related records in accordance with applicable regulations.
    • Review and ensure compliance to necessary internal controls.
    • Review and analyze current environment of operating systems and recommend best practices.
    • Works with budget totalling about $100,000 annually.

    Qualifications
    Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities

    • Demonstrate skills in strategic thinking and planning.
    • Understanding of mission/servant leadership and organizational development.
    • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs and processes.
    • Knowledge of the mission and structure of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
    • Knowledge of and ability to use sound management practices and procedures.
    • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with people of different cultures, theological, and social backgrounds.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality on sensitive matters.
    • Shared services experience is a plus.
    • A change agent who is intellectually curious.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to partner with shareholders from multiple disciplines.
    • Ability to facilitate group interaction, to build decision-making processes through strong listening skills, help assess needs, and problem solve.
    • Ability to delegate tasks and motivate others to accept tasks.
    • Ability to plan, prepare, and monitor an office budget.
    • Knowledge of and skill in using Microsoft Office and other software programs and office equipment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proven skill in public speaking.

    Education and Experience

    1. Catholic able to partake in the sacramental life of the church, well grounded in and loyal to Catholic teaching.
    2. Bachelor degree in HR or closely related field.
    3. Advanced degree preferred.
    4. Minimum 15 years of progressive human resources experience with a minimum of 5 years at a senior level.
    5. Designated SHRM or SPHR certification a plus.
    6. Must have demonstrated experience in several areas - strategic planning, talent acquisition, EE engagement/retention, performance management, EE/ER law and compliance, total compensation analysis and HRIS/Payroll systems.
