The Youth Minister manages the catechetical, spiritual, outreach, and social activities of the youth (grades 6-12) in the life of the Parish. The Youth Minister facilitates the development of the youth so they can assume their rightful place as mature adults in the Church. In reality
there will be two distinct ministries, for middle school students (6-8) and for high school students (9-12). Through programming which is both catechetical and social, the YM will help the student recognize their giftedness and provide opportunities for them to utilize those gifts.
Through the components of catechesis, prayer and fellowship, the YM will assist the students in integrating their faith into their everyday lives. The student should grow in their knowledge of faith, exposure of the Church's vast approaches to prayer, and understand the communal nature of the faith through social events.
Young Adult Minister leads and manages gatherings of the Parish Young Adults. Monthly gatherings as well as bi-monthly emails are expected. The YA minister should assist and lead our young adults deeper in their relationship with the Lord and encourage them to be active parishioners.
Weekly program: Plan, organize and guide biweekly structured events for the middle school and a separate event for the high school students, during the school year and throughout the summer. It is expected that the YM will provide sessions focused on prayer, study, community and ministry (service) each month, building on the four pillars of the Dominican Order. The purpose of the Youth Ministries to develop and encourage youth as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Sacramental Preparation: The Youth Minister is responsible for the preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This yearly program involves 8th and 9th grades. It will include monthly sessions for preparation and formation.
Relational Ministry: The Youth Minister should incorporate some time in his/her schedule for relational ministry with the teens. This can include attending extracurricular events. The Youth Minister should look for opportunities to build trust outside of liturgical and spiritual events. Coordinate a monthly Faith, Fun and Friends gathering for all high school/middle school ministries.
Serve as a resource to other staff: The Youth Minister will provide assistance to the School Principal and Staff under the guidance and directions of the Director of Religious Education by planning and implementing the 8th grade retreat and collaborating with the DRE as needed.
Mission/Service Trips: During the Summer and Spring Break, the Youth Minister is to organize a service or mission trip within the continental United States for the high school students. In addition at least once a month, the Youth Ministries support a charitable service opportunity for students.
