Title: Pastoral Assistant for Youth, Young Adults, and Families
I. POSITION PURPOSE:
Collaborates with the pastor, parish and school staffs implementing the mission of the parish. This is accomplished by participating in the comprehensive planning, implementation and evaluation of parishes' Five-Year Plan, with the specific focus on our parish school's middle school youth, and families with youth in public middle school and high school youth, and young adults. Additional goals are increased interaction between school and parish families through social and service activities, and help parents and youth grow in discipleship through Alpha with a special focus on school parents.
II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Collaborates with the pastor and other members of the parish and School staff in implementing the mission of the parish. This is accomplished by participating in the comprehensive planning, implementation and evaluation of parish Five-Year Plan with the specific focus on middle school students, high school youth and young adults.
B. Participates in the life of the parish school community to form relationships with St. Francis of Assisi School youth and their parents. This is accomplished in the following ways:
a. Consult with the school principal and staff to identify parent and middle school youth leaders
b. Form a Youth Council that consists of parents and youth that helps to develop plan to draw parents, youth, and families into the life of the parish
c. Coordinate social events
d. Develop and coordinate service activates that support PA for Outreach and Evangelization service areas as well as the school's service projects
e. Offer Prayer Services that encourage youth and families that are geared to their interests and needs
f. Invite school parents to a pre-view of Alpha and/or ALPHA sessions
C. Advocates for and patriciates in ALPHA. This is accomplished by
a. Developing and implementing strategies that invite school parents, youth, and young adults to participant in Alpha.
b. Hosts and/or regularly participates in ALPHA Program.
c. Encourages Post-Alpha participants to join Connect Groups and / or volunteer for parish ministries.
D. Forms leadership council for families with youth in Public and Catholic High School that implements strategies to invite their peers into the life of the parish. This is accomplished in the following ways:
a. Social and service activities
b. Joint school and parish social and service activates
c. Offer Youth Alpha for middle school and Sr. High School youth
d. Mentors youth in their spiritual journey through formal programs and informal small faith groups.
E. Sacrament of Confirmation:
a. Recruits and coordinates Confirmation Team that prepare young people for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
b. In collaboration with the PA for Faith Formation, designs and implements a two-year formation program for Public School youth that want to be confirmed.
F. Collaborates with the Archdiocesan Young Adult Ministry Office to offer programs suited to young adults, i.e., Theology on Tap.
G. Attends staff meeting twice a month.
H. Provides a written article about youth and family ministries for the parish weekly newsletter / bulletin
I. Ensures all volunteers are current with the Safe Environment Program polices
J. Attends Archdiocesan youth ministry meetings and/or workshops as time permits
K. Performs any other duty and/or responsibility that supervisor(s) may require.
