The Evangelization Summer Internship at the Basilica of Saint Mary offers college students or college-aged young adults the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in parish ministry. This role is split between the Communications Office, the Office of Youth & Young Adult Apostolates, and the Office of Religious Education, providing a well-rounded experience in faith-based communications, youth ministry, and evangelization.
Interns will assist with parish communications, support youth and family faith formation events, and contribute to the Basilica's mission of spreading the Gospel through creative media and direct ministry.
Qualifications & Skills - Be a practicing Catholic faithful to the teachings of the Magisterium. - Be a college student or college-aged young adult with a high school diploma. - Be available from mid-May to early August (start/end dates negotiable). - Be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities. - Be willing to work nights and some weekend events. - Be able to work independently and collaboratively. - Virtus-compliant through the Arlington Diocese's Office of Child - Protection or willing to become compliant before the internship begins.
Communications & Media: - Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). - Experience with graphic design (Canva preferred). - Photography, videography, and basic editing skills (photo, video, and audio). - Writing and content creation for newsletters, websites, and social media.
Youth & Family Ministry: - Experience in event coordination. - Comfort with public speaking. - Ability to engage youth and families in a non-classroom setting. - Patience and kindness when working with children, teens, and adults.
Main Duties & Responsibilities: - Assist in parish-wide communications, including website updates, flyer design, and social media content. - Take photos, record videos, and edit media for parish events. - Support the production of the Basilica's newsletter and podcasts. - Provide logistical and administrative support for communications projects. - Assist with the Basilica's summer program that support our youth and families, which includes service, fellowship, and faith formation events. - Help plan and lead our Vacation Bible School and High School Counselor program. - Assist with administrative tasks such as mailings, phone calls, and event logistics.
