Position Description:
This position is the Catholic Charities expert for all St. Lucy food and financial collection activities. This person achieves maximum food and financial collection participation to serve those in need.
Initial emphasis is on maximum parish participation. It requires coordination with the Manassas Warehouse (MW) Foreman and Warehouse Volunteer Coordinator. This position also requires coordination with other Catholic Charities' pantry sites and understanding of their regional challenges to collect and distribute food.
Position Responsibilities:
• Form collaborative relationships with parishes, schools, civic groups and other community and faith-based organizations to promote food drives to support the common goal of "Feeding the Hungry."
• Provide MW Foreman and Volunteer Coordinator food pound projections for weekly planning for food drives, volunteer sorting and packing and distribution planning purposes.
• Provide monthly and quarterly food donation projections every first Monday of the month to support distribution objectives.
• Develop presentations to stakeholders to recruit their participation in the St. Lucy Food Project.
• Work with food drive point of contact using a checklist of steps required for successful results in coordination with pantry staff. Collaborate to provide volunteer food drive collection, transportation, and unloading support.
• Have visibility into all food drive results for all CCDA sites and report to the Program Director. Provide monthly status update showing all parish engagement with level of participation, food pounds collected and financial donation.
• Ensure food drive points of contact are well informed to safely conduct food drives with emphasis on use of CCDA vehicles and operation of its equipment. Ensure donated food is delivered to the point of storage (e.g., Manassas Warehouse, Sterling).
• Complete financial paperwork to process monetary donations
• Provide to the Program Director a St. Lucy Food Project monthly upcoming parish events .
• Follow St. Lucy safety procedures and guidance (verbal and written) from the Warehouse Foreman and Program Director. Ensure food collection handbooks include written safety requirements and food drive volunteers are informed of safety information.
• Develop a food collection handbook for farm gleaning perishable food events.
• Maintain an up-to-date list of contact information for parishes and community and volunteer organizations, to include St. Lucy Food Project relationship history.
• Develop and propose St. Lucy Food Project advertising campaigns for the Arlington Catholic Herald and other media to support fulfillment of responsibilities within budget provided.
• Update Outreach portion of all web sites for accurate St. Lucy information in coordination with the Program Director.
• Enter data routinely into food database and meet all deadlines for monthly progress reports.
• Collaborate with warehouse team to gather their food donation receipts
• Update the SLP food drive kit procedures and related outreach forms with process improvements as needed. Ensure relevant St. Lucy safety procedures are included.
• such as "Feeding America" statistics for the Arlington Diocese.
• Work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for presentations or food drives.
Other Duties:
• Teleworking is limited to planning, organizing, purchasing, emailing, etc. tasks. Job requires on site interaction with parish and organization representatives as well as Manassas Warehouse staff to collect food for clients
• Participate in quarterly PLN meetings and assist in identifying potential parish attendees.
• Submit to the Program Director for approval plans for meetings, training workshops, and Outreach related activities.
• Develop education materials and deliver training on food-related management and best practices.
• Travel throughout the Arlington Diocese of Virginia, consisting of 21 counties and 7 independent cities. Flexible schedule with some evening and/or weekend hours required.
• Help out in the warehouse when needed for food drives and food movement. Must be able to lift and move 40 lb. boxes. Being able to use a manual pallet jack a plus.
• Learn the client intake process for St. Lucy pantries in case backup support is needed on short notice.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Ability to establish excellent relationships, including building confidence with priests, parishes and Catholic Charities agencies, translating into increased support and utilization.
• Strong listening skills and proven ability to respectfully work with community members. Position requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
• Ability to consider alternative courses of action and select the best one; tackle problems or issues directly and make decisions in a timely manner; exercise sound business judgment.
• Ability to work in a team setting and also to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong planning and prioritization skills and ability to work strategically.
• Highly proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software applications.
• Must have valid Virginia driver's license and be able to drive all SLP vehicles as needed.
• Complete food safety/sanitation training within 120 days.
• Be able to support Program Director in conducting virtual meetings.
• Knowledgeable and willing to uphold Catholic moral and social teaching.
Education and Experience:
• Undergraduate degree
• Experience in working with Catholic priests, parish ministries and organizations is helpful.
• Experience working with and coordinating volunteers is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to work with large and small businesses aligned with Catholic Charities mission and goals.
• Social services experience with underserved populations is a plus.
• Logistics experience is desirable.
• Knowledge and/or experience of food distribution is a plus.
• Knowledge and/or experience in food pantry operations is desirable.
Physical Demands:
• Must be able to drive SLP trucks or vans when needed.
• The employee is required to lift up to 40 pounds using such items as hand trucks, dollies or carts.
• Must be able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to use a computer keyboard and handle food; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and climb a step ladder.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
