St. Michael Catholic Church in Glen Allen is looking for a substitute piano player/accompanist to play at the Sunday evening 5pm Mass on select Sundays while our youth minister (who regularly plays our 5pm Mass) is away performing other ministry duties or off. Currently, this Mass is simply piano and a cantor. (If piano player can sing, they are also welcome to sing with a microphone.)
One should be familiar with a wide variety of music, as we use a blend of contemporary and traditional hymns with new arrangements. Most of our repertoire comes from OCP or CCLI sources. (The psalms are generally sourced from Spirit & Psalm, and we use the Communion Antiphon from OCP's Let Us All Rejoice) One should be able to read melody line/chord sheets and be able to identify harmony lines. (Desiring the use of full keyboard sheet music is ok too!) Vocal skills are a plus, but not required.
All music will be pre-planned and placed together in a packet for the given Sunday. The job entails personal practice to sufficiently play each Mass, a practice at 4pm with the cantor, and then 5pm Mass itself.
Stipend will be paid per cantor practice/liturgy, with rate being negotiated based on experience.
