The Basilica School of Saint Mary in Alexandria, VA, seeks dedicated staff members to join our instructional team. Instructional aides will perform a variety of paraprofessional curricular, instructional, clerical, and support tasks to teachers in an elementary learning environment; they will assist with the daily management primarily of the student(s) in the classroom, cafeteria, and playground. This position is a wonderful opportunity for a candidate interested in a career in an entry-level career opportunity in education.
While the list below is not exhaustive, the aide must be able to perform the following duties.
Monitor groups of students engaged in drawing, writing, independent study, or similar work while the teacher is otherwise occupied.
Assist with instructing the student under the teacher's supervision, including monitoring students on independent work.
Provide supervision while the student is in all areas of the school to maintain personal safety.
Complete training for crisis management, behavioral support, and other school-sanctioned training.
Perform a certain level of physical activity that includes but is not limited to running, completing an activity on the ground, getting on and off the floor frequently, assisting a student at recess, and P.E.
Helps the student maintain a structured daily routine and adapt when the schedule may or may not change.
The aide must maintain discreet confidentiality when working with other staff and parents regarding a student's private medical and academic needs. This position is full-time with benefits from the Diocese of Arlington. The hours are Monday - Friday: 7:30-3:30 PM.
