Bishop O'Connell High School seeks a Director of Alumni Relations to join a dynamic six-person Advancement Department. It is a full-time, exempt 12-month position reporting to the Director of Advancement.
Bishop O'Connell High School is a 65-year-old co-ed college preparatory school in the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, Virginia. Our mission is to provide students with an education rooted in the life of Christ and foster the pursuit of excellence in the whole person.
The Director of Alumni Relations will lead a vibrant alumni engagement program aimed at providing opportunities for alumni to support the mission and the strategic needs of the school. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Director will work closely and
in collaboration with the Advancement team to achieve overall departmental goals and support fundraising events.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and promote meaningful events to strengthen alumni connections, including homecoming activities, alumni awards ceremonies, reunions, professional networking events, community service opportunities, and student assemblies.
Engage and build relationships with alumni locally, regionally, and nationally.
Organize and build alumni leadership in target cities and assist alumni with regional gatherings.
Develop multidimensional communications to reach all alumni where they are.
Work closely with Advancement colleagues to engage alumni in philanthropic support for the Annual Fund, Planned Giving, Fundraising Events, and Capital Campaigns.
Create articles and alumni content for the Knights' Pages Alumni Magazine.
Manage alumni content for the school's website.
Engage alumni online and create fresh content for social media channels.
Manage the school's LinkedIn pages.
Research alumni profiles and keep records up to date in the alumni database.
Develop alumni advocates who communicate alumni achievements and life milestones for promotion in the alumni magazine.
Connect alumni to the school through dynamic partnerships that benefit academic and co-curricular programs.
Assist the Director of Annual Giving with Young Alumni Programming, including developing a Senior Class Giving Program.
Manage an alumni budget and regularly report on alumni engagement metrics.
Manage student and adult volunteers for alumni and Advancement events.
Provide support for Advancement events, including audio/visual content and graphic design for print material.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Advancement.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum 3-5 years of alumni relations experience with fundraising experience is a plus.
Experience with data management systems; Raiser's Edge experience is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
Enjoys creating new ways of bringing alumni together and connecting them to the school.
Ability to work independently with self-motivation to initiate contact with alumni.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with people.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and various demands.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
