TITLE: Library Assistant
Classification (FLSA): Non-exempt, Hourly
REPORTS TO: Library Director
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Library Assistant shall assist in the day-to-day operations of the Library, primarily the management of student personnel. However, the Assistant will focus on the processing, searching and disposal of in-kind donations to the Library. Duties will include assisting with the management of the library's scheduling and payroll management for the student workers and the on-site and online book sales. Library Assistant shall assist in the day-to-day operations of the Library and may be called upon to assist with the management of the Library building. Some night and weekend hours required.
-Scheduling and payroll management of Student Personnel: The Library Assistant will assist with the scheduling of student personnel using the Colleges Paycom payroll and LibStaffer systems, consulting with the Librarians and the Acquisitions Assistant.
-In-Kind Donation Processing: Library Assistant will manage the receipt and initial processing of book donations, including searching all donations against current collections, comparing matches for possible replacement or addition, and consulting with librarians and faculty on items to be added. Statistics will be kept on donations received, processed and/or exchanged. Library Assistant will supervise student employees in pursuit of these activities.
-Book Sale Management: The Library Assistant is responsible for the management of both on-site and online book sales of weeded materials and donated materials not deemed necessary for the collections of the Library. Statistics will be kept on all aspects of the book sales, and oversight of the process will include both the Library Director and the Associate Librarian. The Library Assistant will supervise student workers in pursuit of these activities..
OTHER NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
-Cataloging: Library Assistant may be called to assist in the copy cataloging process, under the direct supervision of the Cataloging Associate or the Director of the Library.
-Library Building: The Library Assistant may be responsible for the Library building in the evenings, or other times when the Librarians are not present. All problems are to be recorded according to set procedures and reported as specified on related Library Building Report forms. The Library Assistant may be responsible for opening the Library in the evenings, supervising student employees, and maintaining a proper atmosphere for study.
-Other Duties: The Assistant will perform other general duties as required and specified by the Library Director.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
-Bachelors level degree and, at least, two years prior library experience preferred.
-Familiarity with computer hardware and software preferred.
-Supervisory skills and organizational ability important
PHYSICAL / MENTAL / EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
-Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
