Description The Sacristan is responsible for overseeing the worship services, Weekday and/or Weekends Masses, Baptisms, Funerals, Weddings and other liturgical events.
Duties • Opens and closes the Church, lighting, air conditioning/heating, etc. • Prepares the Sacred Vessels and lines for the celebration of the Masses • Sets up for and assist at Adoration, Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals, Holy Hours, Confessions, and other liturgical events. • Assist the Liturgical Ministers (Lector, EMHC, Altar Servers, Ushers, Etc.). • Assist the priest with any needs • Check liturgical supplies and reports and concerns • Checks Church, Sacristy, for cleanliness
Qualifications • Practicing Catholic who is fully initiated in the Roman Catholic Church. • Well organized, responsible and conscientious • Serious about the importance of the Sacred Liturgy; some knowledge of liturgical theology is helpful • Willing to work weekdays, some evenings, weekends, and holidays • Willingness to open and close the church before and after Masses, sometimes night times or early mornings • Able to undertake moderate lifting and carrying • Works well with volunteers and clergy
