    Description

    OPPORTUNITY:

Modern Animal is seeking a Junior Website Developer to support a major initiative: rebuilding a large number of existing WordPress websites into the Wix platform. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or emerging professional with an interest in website development, design, and digital storytelling.

You will work closely with our team to transition well-established sites into fresh, easy-to-navigate Wix designs. Content, images, and structural templates are already in place-your job will be to thoughtfully migrate, format, and polish the pages so that each site is elevated in design and clarity.

This is meaningful, steady project work that will last approximately four months. We will pay a flat rate for each website completed. This is a remote contractor role with a flexible schedule.

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Rebuild existing websites from WordPress to Wix using provided templates and site assets
-Lightly edit existing content to improve readability and presentation
-Maintain the integrity of each site's structure during migration
-Customize site design to match brand guidelines
-Conduct self-review and quality audit before sharing completed sites for final review
-Collaborate with the team to implement feedback and improve process efficiencies

    HARD SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

-Proficiency with Wix site builder (or ability to learn quickly)
    -Familiarity with WordPress
    -Basic HTML/CSS understanding (Bonus)
-Strong grasp of digital design principles (layout, typography, visual hierarchy)
-Strong understanding of grammar and typical business writing format
-Comfortable with project management tools like Asana (or willing to learn)
-Comfortable working in Google Docs, Sheets, and Drive

    SOFT SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

-Very hard-working and willing to put in the time needed to get the project done-even if that means working some late nights or weekends
    -Detail-oriented and organized
    -Self-motivated with excellent time management
    -Clear communicator
-Eager to learn and open to feedback
-Able to manage multiple projects at once

    COMPENSATION:

-Flat Rate: $400 per site completed (paid as 1099 contractor)
-Estimated time per site: the majority of websites will take ~15 hours (with a minority taking as little as 10 or as much as 20 hours)
    - We are looking for someone who can complete 1 or 2 websites per week (available to work 15-30 hours per week)
-Start date by the end of October is preferred
-Timelines are subject to client responsiveness and feedback cycles
-The project is expected to conclude February 2026
-Professional letter of recommendation will be provided upon project completion

    CAREER PATH & ADVANCEMENT
-Exposure to real-world website development projects for mission-driven clients
-Mentorship and feedback from experienced designers and strategists
-Potential to grow into advanced or senior-level web development role

    HOW TO APPLY-PLEASE SUBMIT:
    1) Your availability (available start date, available number of hours per week)
    2) Short note on why you're a great fit
    3) Resume
    4) Portfolio: Please submit ONE single resource that contains multiple work samples. We hope to see two website examples and two examples of professional business writing such as blog posts.
-Preferably, this will be in the format of a well-organized and easy-to-navigate portfolio website you created
-Alternatively, you may submit one PDF with a consolidated set of work samples
-Please avoid submitting multiple website links or attached screenshots in the body of your email. Consolidate all work samples into one portfolio file.

***PLEASE NOTE: APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT SUBMIT ONE CONSOLIDATED PORTFOLIO FILE WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED***
