Position Overview: We are seeking a full-time 6th Grade Homeroom/ELA Teacher who will lead the 6th-grade homeroom and teach English Language Arts to 6-7-8th grade, fostering strong reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills within a faith-centered classroom. The ideal candidate is collaborative, joyful, and committed to the mission of Catholic education.
Key Responsibilities: Serve as 6th Grade homeroom teacher: daily prayer, attendance, parent communication, and coordination of class routines. Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned ELA instruction (reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary) with varied, student-centered strategies.
Integrate Catholic identity and values across classroom routines and literature discussions.
Coordinate with grade-level and specialty teachers on cross-curricular projects.
Maintain a positive, orderly classroom environment with clear expectations and restorative practices.
Communicate consistently with families; maintain accurate records. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school liturgies, and community events.
Minimum Qualifications: Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Strong content knowledge in ELA and age-appropriate pedagogy.
Excellent classroom management, organization, and communication skills.
Willingness to collaborate and to engage in ongoing professional learning.
Preferred Qualifications: NYS Teacher Certification (ELA or Childhood/Middle Grades) or eligibility/in progress.
Prior successful teaching experience in middle grades (6-8).
Experience with differentiated instruction, writing workshops, and formative assessment.
Comfort with educational technology (Google Workspace, SIS platforms, digital literacy tools).
