Title: Youth Ministry Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Faith Formation for Youth and Children and Pastor
General Description:
Responsible for High School youth by providing formal catechesis and strengthening their commitment to the Church through service and special events
Collaborate with the Director of Faith Formation for Children and Youth to coordinate the High School and Middle School Faith Formation Program including Sacramental preparation
Work collaboratively with the Director of Faith Formation in the recruiting and training of adults in carrying out the tasks of the youth program
Coordinate annual retreats, youth ministry events, and summer programs
Supervise, assist and work collaboratively with the Youth Ministry Assistant working with the Middle School Youth and Confirmation program
Necessary Qualifications:
Active and practicing member of a Catholic parish community.
Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field preferred.
Youth ministries experience in a Catholic parish a plus.
Proficient in Spanish a plus
Willing to work on continuing education in the youth ministry field or a related field
Knowledgeable of current youth culture and current trends and issues within those cultures
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Social Media
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with all Diocesan requirements
Ability to lift 50pounds.
Have reliable transportation
Job Responsibilities
A. Leadership:
Function as primary staff person relating to high school youth.
Visionary and developer of Middle School and High School special events working with the Youth Ministry Assistant and the Director of Faith Formation for Children and Youth
Recruit adult volunteers for the High School and Middle School Youth Ministry programs
Collaborate and develop with Director of Faith Formation of Children and Youth training programs for adult volunteers for the High School and Middle School Youth Ministry programs
Work closely with team members including Youth Ministry Assistant and other support staff.
Work with Safe Environment Director to ensure Safe Environment clearance for all adult catechists and volunteers and driver safety clearance, as applicable.
Stay informed by attending and participating in Diocesan training, workshops, and meetings specified for Youth Ministry.
Maintains good interpersonal skills
Assist with Parish family events along with the HOPE events
B. Program Development
Plan and implement curriculum for High School and Middle School youth faith formation and sacramental preparation with approval of the Director of Faith Formation
Plan and implement High School Bible Studies with approval of Director of Faith Formation
Plan and implement High School activities such as service projects, retreats, lock-ins, and Diocesan sponsored youth events.
Plan for speakers for Youth events with approval of the Director of Faith Formation, Safe Environment Director, and the Pastor
Create Youth ministries calendar in collaboration and support of the Director of Faith Formation including curriculum schedule, events and activities for the high school youth.
Create and maintain a Meal Team
Maintain records for on and off-site High School events. (rosters, medical releases, registrations)
C. Administration
Record all receipts and monies coming into the Youth Office (for Middle School and High School), and give to church business office
Manage Youth Office (High School and Middle School) purchase requests with approval of Director of Faith Formation, and church business office
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours for accessibility to youth, parents, and staff.
Work with the Director of Faith Formation for Children and Youth on preparation of Youth Ministry annual budget.
Set long-term and annual goals and objectives for High School and Middle School Ministries working with the Director of Faith Formation of Children and Youth
D. Communication
Be an effective communicator and be able to resolve conflicts.
Provide pastoral assistance along with the Director of Faith Formation and the Pastor for youth, parents, and families involved in the High School and Middle School youth programs
Communicate with Director of Faith Formation for Children and Youth when planning events.
Communicate with the Director of Faith Formation for Children and Youth on matters concerning students and parents
Communicate with High School Ministries parents via e-mail or phone pertaining to all upcoming program events and activities on a timely basis.
Ability to speak and present in front of a large crowd of people
Oversee communication with the Middle School program parents along with the assistant youth minister
Attend weekly staff meetings
