COORDINATOR OF HIGH SCHOOL FORMATION AT ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST
The Coordinator of High School Formation is responsible for maintaining and continuing to
build a kerygmatic high school youth ministry and Confirmation program at the parish. This
program provides opportunities for conversion and a response of faith through formal
catechesis, service opportunities, and opportunities for spiritual growth and discipleship. The
Coordinator works in conjunction with the Elementary and Middle School Formation
Coordinators and other parish staff to ensure a successful implementation of the Youth
Formation Program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be a faithful and practicing Catholic
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check
• Organized, energetic, flexible, and charismatic with the gift of an exterior expression
of faith
• Quick learner and ability to work well with a variety of different people from all
backgrounds in a professional and pastoral manner
• Proficient in use of variety of office equipment, video editing, and programs such as
Canva
• Strong interpersonal skills with youth and adults and ability to facilitate team building
• A charism and desire to work directly with youth and adult volunteers
• Comfortable facilitating and leading a team in large and small group settings
• Comfortable speaking in front of a variety of age groups and communicating clearly
with the mind of the Church
• Knowledge of Church documents especially regarding evangelization and catechesis
• Flexible and willing to work with various ministries and staff members in the parish
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelors Degree in Catechetics, Youth Ministry,
Theology or a related field from a reputable Catholic institution
• Minimum of two years of youth ministry experience in a Catholic parish
• Solid understanding of a discipleship model of ministry
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Coordinator of High School Formation will run and facilitate the following
programs within the Youth Formation Office:
CONFIRMATION/SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION FOR TEENS
• Facilitate two informational parent meetings per year working closely with the
Director of Family Life for further formation for parents
• Maintain detailed attendance records
• Prepare and form students for reception of the sacraments
• Implement programs and curriculum that abides with Diocesan standards
• Interview confirmandi to ensure readiness
• Keep detailed records of all necessary paperwork
• Plan and facilitate Encounter Saturdays for Confirmation catechesis
• Plan and organize Solidarity events and maintain records of service hours
YOUTH MINISTRY
• Plan, prepare, and facilitate weekly youth nights
• Recruit and form adult core team of volunteers
• Meet with core team weekly
• Plan regular social events
• Attend regular parish events and invite teens within the community to youth
events
• Maintain a strong focus on relational ministry outside the program
RETREAT
• Plan yearly high school retreat
• Organize team of adult volunteers including talks, small groups, core team, and
meal preparation
• Hire musicians and schedule priests for confessions
• Book venue, maintain registrations, etc.
• Create and order t-shirts
SUMMER TRIP
• Book reservations
• Fundraise
• Book transportation, lodging, and bus services
• Recruit chaperones
• Facilitate excellent follow up ministry for teens
