St. Gabriel's Catholic School is a co-educational Independent Catholic school serving students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade in Austin, Texas. The Middle School is comprised of grades 5-8. St. Gabriel's Language Arts teachers are experts in evidence-based reading and writing instruction. Teaching is guided by the key principles of skill development in each domain and application of current research from the field. Classroom instruction integrates a recursive model of literacy to promote students' development as lifelong readers and writers. Instructional decisions are made based on results of ongoing assessment, and support learners in the various stages of learning to read/reading to learn. Curricular models develop foundational reading to learn skills as well as various dimensions of listening comprehension, vocabulary development, literary analysis, analysis of informational text, and responses to text. English Language Arts teachers collaborate vertically to ensure alignment as well as horizontally to extend the learning into other core content areas.

The ideal candidate has at least three years of teaching experience in middle school English Language Arts, has demonstrated a passion for students and content. The ideal candidate is experienced in and continues to develop expertise in social-emotional learning, project-based learning, STEAM integration, technology-rich and differentiated instruction. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment designing and delivering innovative and creative cross-curricular instructional units to students with diverse learning styles and needs. St. Gabriel's Middle School implements an Advisory program to focus on and bolster support for each student's social-emotional needs. An integral component in the candidate's instructional duties is a daily Advisory small group to mentor in meaningful engagement.

SGCS is a 1:1 laptop school. Thus teachers are expected to demonstrate meaningful skill with technology and an enthusiasm for technological growth in order to create authentic learning experiences for their students.
