The Director of Development is responsible for overseeing all aspects of agency fundraising, communications, and development efforts. The Director of Development promotes stewardship as a way of life, advocating charitable giving through grants, parish partnerships, planned giving, major gifts, and capital fundraising efforts in order to advance the mission of Catholic Charities of East Tennessee (CCETN). This position works closely with the Executive Director, reports to the Chief Operations Officer and has direct supervisory responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement strategies to increase the CCETN's revenue through individual and major gifts, grants, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising events
• Develop and implement strategies to promote planned giving, including identifying and cultivating prospective donors, creating and promoting legacy giving opportunities, and coordinating with legal and financial advisors to facilitate planned gifts
• Manage the development department's budget, including tracking expenses and allocating resources effectively
• Establish annual strategic marketing plan for corporate and private sponsorships
• Collaborate with the agency's board of trustees to engage them in fundraising efforts and provide regular updates on the progress of the development plan
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, major gift prospects, corporate sponsors, and grant funding organizations to secure gifts, grants, and sponsorships
• Identify and cultivate relationships with individuals that have the financial resources to give a gift of $10,000 or higher
• Develop and implement strategies to engage donors including personalized communications, donor recognition, and stewardship activities
• Cultivate donor and volunteers through direct mail, online/social media, specialized campaigns, letters of acknowledgment, and in-person visits
• Maintain oversight for community and parish outreach through Parish Partners program, as well as networking activities as a representative of CCETN
• Provide oversight to plan and execute fundraising events that promote the CCETN's mission and increase revenue
• Oversee the management of the donor database, including gift processing, timely acknowledgments, and reporting
• Supervise and coordinate activities required to maintain donor and prospect data system
• Develop and manage the agency development budget, including tracking expenses and allocating resources effectively
• Recruit, train, and supervise development staff to achieve fundraising goals and meet performance targets
• Oversight over all areas for development, including media presence, fundraising, donor database, Event Action Councils (EAC) and grant activities
• Provide oversight in the creation of compelling fundraising appeals that highlight the impact of the agency's services, execution of annual appeals, direct mail, electronic and peer-to-peer campaigns
• Supervise the creation of various communications including the annual report, PowerPoint presentations, executive correspondences, speeches, including ghost writing
• Ensure volunteer coordination and recognition programs are successful
• Analyze and report on fundraising, on a weekly basis; including dollars raised, expenditures, new donors, sponsor dollars, average gift size and other relevant metrics using donor platform
Job Requirements:
• Must possess interpersonal influence and charisma in order to help build important donor and volunteer relationships
• Must be comfortable meeting with and gaining the financial support of wealthy individuals
• Must enjoy being the visible face of an organization driven to be the hands, the feet, and the heart of Jesus to the poor and vulnerable of East Tennessee
• Must be able to move objects weighing up to 25 lbs
• Must successfully pass all required screening procedures
• Must possess a valid driver's license
• Must be willing to travel if required
• Must maintain any training and certification requirements
• Must support the teachings of the Catholic Church and embody our organization's mission and culture through behavior and daily interactions
• Regular and predictable on-site attendance is required
Job Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit management, Business, Communications or a related field
• 7+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a track record of successful donor cultivation, major gift solicitation, and grant writing
• Knowledge of PowerPoint, Mail chimp, Raisers Edge, and media analysis tools
• Highly organized
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling fundraising appeals and presentations
• Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively internally and externally
• Work well under pressure with deadlines and be skilled in prioritizing responsibilities
• Commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, and other supporters
