Cardinal Newman School of Columbia, South Carolina is accepting applications for a dependable middle school Social Studies teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. Course levels will include college preparatory and honors classes in middle school-level world history. The teacher's responsibilities include developing student's critical thinking, problems-solving skills and employing a variety of instructional strategies to ensure that all students are challenged to progress towards mastery of complex concepts. Outstanding candidates are able to apply what they have learned to real-life situations and can successfully teach students with different interests and aptitudes. New teacher orientation will take place on August 4th.
Primary Responsibilities: - Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school. - Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese. -Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters. -Understanding the curriculum and developing long range plans, lesson plans, and teaching methods that will help students master the required content. -Preparing and delivering lessons that meet the three-dimensional learning expectations of the standards. -Flexibility to teach multiple courses as student needs arise -Preparing appropriate and varied assessments that assess students both formatively and summatively. -Ensuring appropriate resources and consultation times are available to students. -Ensuring that appropriate educational needs are met for all students. - Proficiency in classroom management. -Maintain strict records of student attendance, participation, homework, lab work and test results. -Attending staff and parent meetings, conferences, workshops, and other continuing education programs. -Handling various administration functions, which include updating student records, verifying student accommodations are implemented, and keeping track of tools, and equipment. -Ensuring a safe, healthy classroom environment where learning can take place.
Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree in History or a related discipline, although a master's or above is preferred. -Teaching certification is preferred. -Knowledge of inquiry-based instruction is recommended. -Excellent interpersonal, as well as written and verbal communication skills. -Sound knowledge of health and safety regulations. -Ability to inspire and motivate students. -Strong multitasking skills.
