    Description

St. Mary Academy - Bay View, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1874, is an all-girls' school and is a member institution of the Mercy Education System of the Americas, a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy. Bay View's campus is located in Riverside, Rhode Island, five miles east of the state Capitol building.

St. Mary Academy - Bay View is one academy housing three schools - Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School. All three schools share this one common mission:

In the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy, the school fosters academic excellence in an innovative and creative learning environment in order to empower each student, from preschool through grade twelve, to be a confident, independent, compassionate, and socially conscious young woman who fully lives her faith.

This mission is carried out in developmentally appropriate ways across the three levels, and all are targeted to girls...the way they learn, play, grow, relate, and thrive. Lower School (Preschool through Grade 5), Middle School (Grades 6-8), and Upper School (Grades 9-12).

Nearly 400 students are drawn from over 40 cities and towns throughout Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts, and Northeastern Connecticut. Middle and Upper School students are selected based on a rigorous entrance examination as well as superior academic achievement. Bay View welcomes and appreciates the community enrichment that ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity provides.

St. Mary Academy - Bay View is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC) and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA), the National Coalition of Girls' Schools (NCGS), and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

The President is the Chief Executive Officer of the school and as such, holds full responsibility for the implementation of the school's Sisters of Mercy mission and charism and all aspects of the school's business and advancement operations. The President is directly responsible for the external affairs of the school, ensuring sufficient resources, sound fiscal management, and financial stability through oversight of the business operations, development, alumni, community relations, and enrollment management activities. The President reports to and works with the Board of Trustees to promote the good reputation and values of the school to the external community.

The ideal candidate will be able to articulate a direction and priorities for the school through implementing its recently approved strategic plan and have experience in overseeing and utilizing opportunities with and among other educational institutions and community organizations. As a visible presence within and outside the school community, the President must be able to advance the marketing and advancement initiatives of the school. Ideally, the successful candidate will have significant executive leadership experience, expertise in financial and business management, the ability to articulate Bay View's value proposition, and a proven track record of acquiring funds through soliciting major gifts, planned gifts, and capital campaign contributions. Candidates should possess exemplary communication and relationship-building skills that inspire confidence and collaboration.

Finally, the new President should have a passion for advancing the mission of Catholic education, particularly the single-gender education of young women in the Sisters of Mercy tradition, possess an understanding of the President/Principal model of administration, and be comfortable working with a committed Board of Trustees, the Sisters of Mercy, and Mercy Education System of the Americas

While the President must have a demonstrated capacity for broad institutional leadership, candidates could have attained this experience through various career paths, including primary, secondary, or higher education, non-profit management, or work in the corporate or public sector. Regardless of the career path, the prospective President must have expert knowledge of and a proven record of building upon a strong community culture and identifying, cultivating, and developing strategic partnerships to ensure continued accessibility, success, and sustainability. An advanced degree in educational administration or business-related fields is a plus.
