Overview: The Music Director is responsible for all dimensions of liturgical music involved with the participation of the choir; must be both a musician and facilitator and able to play and teach proper liturgical music in addition to allowing others with musical talents to participate in this ministry.
Key Responsibilities:
• Providing liturgical music for masses; including masses in which the choir participates • Recruiting for, establishing and maintaining a music ministry of choir, instrumentalists and others under the direction of the parish pastor • Developing mass music plans for weekend, holy day masses, and other parish liturgical celebrations • Conducting rehearsals with choir, instrumentalists, and others as needed • Participating in staff and applicably associated meetings • Making recommendations for music resources used by the parish • Seeking copyright permissions, as necessary • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Actively participating in the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church • Able to satisfactorily complete background checks and training applicable to diocesan requirements • Working knowledge of musical equipment and singing with a choir • The ability to read and arrange music • Working knowledge of computers and applicable software programs • High level of liturgical understanding • Professional communication skills • Ability to work as a team with volunteers, musicians, and children involved in the music ministry of the parish • Able to professionally communicate on all levels and in various formats while displaying compassion, understanding and confidentiality
Working Conditions:
FLSA Status: Non-exempt Work Status: Part-time Hours per Week: up to 8 hours per week Work Schedule: Available for two to three weekend masses, choir rehearsals, and other music related parish activities under the direction of the Parish Pastor. Other: Complete and submit time card to Parish Secretary according to payroll schedule. Hours worked over 8 per week must have prior approval from Parish Pastor.
