Job purpose
The Director is primarily responsible for setting a vision for the pastoral care of the African-American Catholic community. In doing so, the Director is responsible to ensure all aspects of ministry to African-American Catholics are addressed in collaboration with other offices, Secretariats and Archdiocesan entities. The Director is responsible for the supervision of the part-time Coordinator, who assists the Director in the various activities of the office.
Key Qualifications:
African American Catholic with a strong affinity for black Catholic history, culture, and experiences.
Thorough knowledge of the Catholic faith with a deep love for its teachings.
Successful experience in Catholic parish, school, institutional, or community-based ministries.
Duties and responsibilities
Includes, but is not limited to:
Sets a vision for pastoral care of the African-American Catholic community
Plans, implements and evaluates all programs of the office for Black Catholics
Supervises the part-time coordinator of the of the office
Serves as a resource and support for the clergy of Parishes in the African American Catholic community
Presents talks and workshops, and prepares written information pertaining to the work of the office
Collaborates with other Archdiocesan offices and entities
Represents the Archdiocese on local and national issues involving African-American Catholics
Serves as a liaison between the Archdiocese and the African-American community
Prepares and manages budget
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
Education: Preferred Master's Degree in Theology or related field
Specialized knowledge: Knowledge of issues surfacing within the Black Catholic community on a national and local level
Skills: Excellent communication and administration skills
Abilities: Ability to maintain effective working relationships
Licenses: Valid driver's license is required for this position
Experience: 5-7 years of preferred supervisory experience
Working conditions
The responsibilities of this position require evening and weekend availability.
Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 lbs.
