SUMMARY & MISSION:
The Pastoral Associate of Catholic Campus Ministry serves as a pastoral minister and ecclesial leader
who provides mentorship for students, pastoral care, and young adult faith formation. Together with the
Director of Catholic Campus Ministry, the Pastoral Associate of Catholic Campus Ministry is responsible
for helping to provide a comprehensive campus ministry which fulfills the mission. The mission of
Catholic Campus Ministry is as follows:
The mission of Catholic Campus Ministry at Bloomsburg University is to create a culture
in which all members of the university community feel invited to enter more deeply into a
transformative relationship with Jesus Christ through His Church.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To create this hospitable environment mentioned above, the main responsibility of this position is to:
1. Provide pastoral care by being physically present and available to students to develop
appropriate relationships with them
2. Aid the Director in the Formation of the Student Core Team and Student Ambassadors
Within those three core responsibilities includes the following specifics:
Be available for individual meetings and consultation among students, faculty,
administration or staff (and provide appropriate resources as needed).
Model a strong and healthy prayer life by attending all liturgies (particularly Sunday)
Assist the Director in coordinating liturgies
Respond credibly, intelligently, and sensitively to inquiries about the Catholic faith.
Mentor/guide the student Core Team and the Ambassadors (and their activities).
Supervise the discernment and appointment of new core team members as needed.
Attend and organize domestic and/or international mission trips and retreats
Collaborate with the Director and Events Coordinator, as needed, in the coordination and
implementation of social events throughout the semester (i.e. Christmas Party, Oktoberfest,
etc.)
Additional Responsibilities
Maintain email communication, phone messages, and upkeep of databases.
Represent Catholic Campus Ministry at:
o University programs such as orientation days for new students and open houses
o Ceremonial occasions of the university.
o Diocesan and local parish events
o Local Bloomsburg community activities.
Coordinate three opportunities during each semester for service in the local community
Assist the Director (as needed) in developing and maintaining positive ecumenical and
interfaith relationships with other campus ministers.
Qualifications:
Fully-initiated member of the Catholic Church and actively participating in the Eucharistic life of
the Church, with a commitment to the Church's authentic teachings
Bachelor's Degree in pastoral ministry, theology, or equivalent training/experience
Experience in campus ministry and/or youth or young adult ministry
Ease and Comfort in large group dynamics as well as one-on-one interactions
Essential Leadership skills that include
o Social Intelligence, prudential pastoral counseling, and exceptional listening skills
o Confident decision making preceded by collaboration and prudence
o Creativity in finding solutions to problems
Flexibility with schedule changes
Ability to work weekday evenings and Sundays
Competence in computer and social media skills
Ability to show sensitivity in handling confidential information
