Holy Cross Church is looking for a Director of Faith Formation and Pastoral Services. We seek a creative, energetic, faith-filled person to handle a two-pronged mission: 1) oversee and develop the evangelical and catechetical work of the parish for all age levels and 2) help organize and facilitate the pastoral care of our parishioners. This is a full-time, twelve-month, on-site position that will require regular evening and occasional weekend work.
1. FAITH FORMATION FOR CHILDREN - Director of the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP)
a. Finds innovative ways to lead our students to Christ and encourage them in a life of discipleship. Develops/expands curriculum and programs to support this goal.
b. Recruits and develops catechists, aides, and other helpers to support program needs.
c. Prepares students (both PREP and parish school) for the reception of Penance, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. Organizes and directs retreats and rehearsals.
d. Oversees the learning environment, ensuring safety and managing conflict and behavioral concerns.
e. Provides spiritual oversight and example to the program.
f. Conducts parent meetings and communicates regularly and effectively with parents.
2. FAITH FORMATION FOR ADULTS
a. Oversees current evangelization, faith formation, and outreach programs for adults in the parish.
b. Collaborates with the pastor and volunteer leaders to enhance current offerings and develop new programs and ideas. Innovation and creativity in this area are encouraged!
c. Leverages social media, Flocknote, the parish bulletin, and other communications media to educate and engage parishioners.
d. Assists with RCIA as needed.
3. PARISH AND PASTORAL SERVICES
a. Is a liaison to and works with all parish ministries and groups.
b. Assists with scheduling, recruitment, and training of liturgical ministers.
c. Coordinates pastoral visits by clergy and lay ministers to the sick and homebound.
d. Assists with liturgical environment preparation. Helps to plan and assists as needed at special liturgies through the year.
4. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Serves as an ex officio member of the pastoral council.
b. Assists with general office tasks as needed.
c. Works with pastor to coordinate and oversee new pastoral initiatives and programs.
d. Organizes and participates in regular staff meetings.
e. Performs other duties and responsibilities that may arise.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
a. A faith-filled, practicing Catholic, who believes and strives to live faithfully all that the Church believes and professes to be true and has a desire to be of service to the Church.
b. Creative, motivated, and organized; capable of working independently and as part of a larger team, especially in a supervisory role.
c. Has, or is able to successfully complete, all required background checks and Safe Environment training.
a. A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, preferably with a concentration in Theology, Catechesis/Religious Education, or similar discipline.
b. Prior experience as a catechist, teacher, and/or in other Church ministries is preferred.
c. Has, or is willing to obtain, Archdiocesan Catechetical Certification.
a. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
b. Ability to communicate clearly and creatively via e-mail, text message, and social media is required, along with the ability to adapt to and learn new platforms to keep up with current technology and trends.
c. Familiarity with Parish Data Systems (PDS) and Flocknote is preferred.
