The Coordinator of Youth Ministry will minister to the parish's high school (grades 9-12) youth through comprehensive Catholic youth ministry, including a Confirmation Ministry, with the goals of finding the lost, leading teens closer to Christ, and forming missionary disciples.
Reports to Pastor; Full-time; will include evenings and weekends
Position Responsibilities
• Implement the eight components of Comprehensive Catholic Youth Ministry as defined by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
• Be present in teenagers' lives by attending school plays, sports events, etc, to perform relational ministry
• Communicate, advertise, and invite teenagers and parents through digital, print, and social media
• High School Ministry - Recruit, train, form, and supervise a volunteer team, leveraging Life Teen to:
- Prepare and facilitate programming including weekly sessions, bible studies, annual fall and spring retreats, a summer service retreat, service opportunities and other events
- Develop youth leadership- o Engage youth in parish life and service
- Engage youth in diocesan and national events
- Promote and facilitate vocational discernment
• Prepare youth for reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation - Recruit, train, form, and supervise a volunteer team to prepare and facilitate a two-year program (as required by the Diocese)
• Facilitate recruitment and training of youth altar servers, lectors, EMHC's and ushers
• Coordinate service opportunities for the youth of the parish
• Coordinate and manage a Junior High Minister - supporting them as they recruit, train, form, and supervise a team to run Edge and otherwise minister to grades six through eight in the parish
• Communicate with youth, families, and parish - explaining the vision, providing resources, and ongoing updates, and advocating for the youth of the parish
• Minister to parents in support of their children
• Minister to youth and families in crisis
• Fundraise for major events and maintain a budget
Qualifications
• Practicing, faithful, active, and passionate Catholic role model in full communion with the Church
• Solid understanding of the teachings and theology of the Roman Catholic Church
• Ability to interact with youth, parents, staff, parishioners and to advocate for the needs of the youth
• Communication, computer, time management, organizational, audio/visual, and social media skills
• Understanding of and adherence to all aspects of Diocesan Safe Environment standards
• Knowledge of Pope Francis' Christus Vivit and the USCCB documents: Renewing the Vision - A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry and Adaptation of Doctrinal Elements of a Curriculum Framework for the Development of Catechetical Materials for Young People of High School Age For Use In Parish and Youth Ministry Programs and other pertinent Church documents
• Knowledge of diocesan documents from the Secretariat for Catechetical Formation: Catechetical Models for Children and Young People and Sacrament Preparation: Handbook for Catechists
• Bachelor's Degree in Theology or related field or the equivalent work / ministry experience
